For the record, [livejournal.com profile] bronzemongoose called it.

Let the bodies hit the floor. )

Well, at least something happened in this chapter. I was afraid that we were in for another five or six chapters of vaguely ominous foreshadowing before the plot moved forward again.

Oh hey look, another Kurogane/Fay cameo. Thank God. Now let's hope this becomes a pattern.

More drawn-out filler crap. )

It's going to be three weeks before the next chapter of Tsubasa, so enjoy this week's fix while it lasts!

Unfortunately, in this chapter, absolutely nothing happened. Also, why is it that in anime and manga, nobody ever goes to a hospital when they need to?

Seriously, Yuuko. Home care isn't going to help much when your kid is coughing up gallons of blood every time he opens his mouth to speak. )
nenena: (Default)
Okay, um... You know how sometimes I go all feminist-ranty about the comics I read, and sometimes I go all bad-writing-ranty about Tsubasa, and normally I try to keep the two separate, but... This week, I can't. I just can't. Because there's a big huge HELLO STRAW, MEET CAMEL'S BACK moment right in the beginning of this chapter, and just... well. Er. You've been warned.

Spoilers and venomous spite, behind the cut.

This is some serious bullshit, right here. )
nenena: (Tsubasa - Please stop)
Remember how last week, I was all excited, because I thought that things might actually be happening?

False alarm. )

Minor note of interest: This week's Shounen Magazine featured a typo in the Table of Contents that placed Tsubasa on page 273 instead of on page 377. And I spent a rather frustrating five minutes flipping around the 200's desperately looking for the Tsubasa manga, before I figured out what was going on.

Yes, that little nugget of trivial information is possibly more interesting than anything that actually happened in this week's chapter.
nenena: (Tsubasa - Please stop)
As promised, this chapter opens with three color pages. Yay!

Unfortunately, we were also promised a "double-length" chapter at the end of CLAMP's hiatus, and this chapter was more like half the length of a normal chapter. Oops.

Okay, so this is going to be a rush summary. I read the chapter during the five minutes that I spent eating breakfast this morning, and I'm going from memory now, so some parts are going to be not so much with the details.

But anyway, after a five-week wait, absolutely nothing happened. )
nenena: (Tsubasa - Please stop)
A week late, but hey, I was on vacation. In this chapter... )

Aaaaaand that's it for chapter 191. In tiny text at the bottom of the last page, CLAMP announces that they're taking a five-week hiatus for "research" purposes. I'm sure that "research" is probably code for "desperately concocting some sort of plan to write ourselves out of all of these irreconcilable plot holes." But! Come volume 31 of Shounen Ace, there will be a super-sized chapter complete with color illustrations! Hooray!

Okay, now for something completely unrelated: This looks really awesome. American gag doujinshi! Who knew?
nenena: (Default)
No Tsubasa this week. There will be a new chapter next week, but I'll be back in America for a short visit (yay!) and more likely than not won't have the time to read it. Just FYI.

So, now for something totally unrelated.... Flist, I come begging for advice. I need to backup my livejournal accounts, but I'm running into problems.

Previously I've been using Livejournal Backup, but it went FUBAR on me last month. Now for some reason it only backs up the first two entries of any given account, and it's refusing to archive comments. I can't figure out why it suddenly stopped working. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I made sure that I was working with the lastest release. But it still just. won't. work.

I've tried multiple times to install and use LJArchive, but I always get some sort of fatal error whenever I attempt to run the program.

So, can anybody recommend any other livejournal backup methods?

Code Geass R2 episode 05. Tsubasa chapter 189. Just when I thought that the WTFery could not be topped, we get Code Geass R2 episode 06.

I'm going to do what I did last week, and just quote Jason again:

If the end of Empire Strikes Back was a ten on the “I am your father” scale, this was clearly a negative fifteen.

Even if the revelation was "uncle" and not "father," this still merits a Quote for Truth.

I literally, absolutely, cannot comprehend this.

Tangent: Daviegh Chase is eighteen years old already?! (Or at least old enough to be cast as an eighteen-year-old?) Eeeek! That makes me feel old.

Also: I am a terrible person. For some reason I told LJ not to notify me when people friend me (why'd I do that?), and I never really look at my own LJ profile, so I had no idea that in the past six months or so a lot of very cool people had friended me. So I just went on a friending binge, just now. If you friended me some time ago and were wondering why I was being a jerk and not friending you back, well, that's why.

I didn't friend everybody who had friended me, though. Just those of you whom I've interacted with, either in comments or on G-W.org or somewhere. I.E. only the people that I "know." I assume that the rest of you are here for Suzumiya Haruhi scans, or Disgaea scans, or something? Surely you're not here to read my weekly cursing at Tsubasa or whatnot.*

*Note that I don't actually write weekly rants about Tsubasa, since the darn thing doesn't actually come out weekly like it's supposed to.

In light of trying to make sense of Tsubasa chapter 189, I've been combing over the first couple of volumes of xxxHolic manga, trying to find the part where Yuuko said that Sakura and Syaoran were in high school and dating. I haven't found that part yet, but I DID find the scene in chapter 02 of xxxHolic where Yuuko says that she's never met Sakura or Syaoran.

It happens when Watanuki is cleaning out Yuuko's "treasure room." He finds Cardcaptor Sakura's (Clow Card arc) wand and is all like, "OMG a magic wand!" But then Yuuko tells him, "Nah, it's just a plastic model that lights up and makes noise." Which is true, unfortunately, boo. Then Yuuko says that she really wants to get her hands on the real thing. And she waxes nostalgic about the "creepy guy" (Clow Reed) who invented the real wand, and says that the real thing now belongs to "a cute girl who's somehow a blood relative of that creepy guy." Then Yuuko says, "I have yet to meet that cute girl or her companion. But I will soon... Not them, actually, but ones like them." This is right before Tsubasa!Syaoran and Sakura show up at Yuuko's shop.

Now I'm really, really curious to see if that scene can at all be reconciled with Tsubasa chapter 189, in which SPOILERS! )

Also, GIP.

EDIT: Okay. Now that I've gone and looked at Tsubasa 189 again, it turns out that at least one inconsistency is solved. Yuuko says よく知っている in reference to both Sakura and Syaoran, which could translate as either "I know him/her well" or "I know of him/her very well." Also, when talking about Sakura, she further adds "Although I've yet to meet her."

That explains why Yuuko can tell Watanuki that she's never met Sakura or Syaoran face-to-face. She just knows a lot about them.

But if she never met Sakura, then how did she get Sakura's wand? And how did she know about Sakura's dream visions? Did somebody else tell her about these things and give Yuuko the wand? I can't imagine that Yuuko would ever grant a wish or receive a payment by proxy...

Also, this still doesn't explain how Yuuko could have the wand six years before xxxHolic and then just NOT have the wand later.

Are you ready for some holy shit?!?!

HOLY SHIT!!!! )

I mean, WOW.

Rufus ain't got nothing on this shit.

Oh god, I am so glad that I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I'm going to check back on the comments in a few days and see if I'm not alone. Or if the fanbrats start wanking, that would be entertaining too. Hating on Saint Fay?! How dare they!!

I can't be the only person who progressed from eye-rolling to outright laughter while reading the Celes arc. I can't be.

Wait, WHAT? )

Twelve chapters left.

ETA: This week's Shounen Magazine is a double issue, which means that next week there will be no new issue, and hence no new Tsubasa.

ETA TWO: A scan of the big WTF moment is now posted in the comments.

Anonymous LJ benefactor, whoever you are, I love you. (*hugs*) Thank you!

Also awesome, and long overdue for a plug: this month's [livejournal.com profile] meiousei.

There was no Tsubasa this week.

Two items of snark:
1. Crack pairing in the frontpiece illustration. I wholeheartedly approve of this one.
2. [livejournal.com profile] atelierjoh and I SO CALLED IT.

But I can't say anything else to make fun of this chapter. This is pure CLAMP tragedy, back in form: absolutely heartbreaking, just incredibly sad, and paired with imaginative visuals that not only look very pretty but are capable of completely ripping your heart out.

In other words, somebody died, and I actually *cared*. )

Thirteen chapters left.
