In a sort of vague honor of Super Comic City this weekend, here, have some epic Soul Eater crossover fanart.

First!

Communist pinko liberal hippie democrats, your days are numbered.

Second!

Click on "Diary." Why? Soul Eater/Dan Brown-verse crossovers. That's why. (But the series of gender-flipped Eruka pics that were posted a month or so ago are also worth a gander.)

What's the opposite of trying to ruin Watchmen? Making it a thousand times MORE AWESOME:

Like so.

I'm still sad that I probably won't be able to see this movie in theaters, but at least we can all enjoy the tangential awesome of the internet having a party with the film.

Have you been AWESOMED by this yet?

I swear, ruining Watchmen sure is a lot more fun than actually respecting the original source material.
nenena: (Tsubasa - Please stop)
First! In my continuing quest to completely ruin Watchmen for my flist, I now present you with two links of brain-breaking awesome:

One!    Two!

You have no idea how much I wish that that last one was a real thing. No idea. If only because it would send Alan Moore into an apoplectic, frothing raaaaaaaaage that would inevitably provide far more entertainment value than the series itself.

Oh hey, speaking of that bit between Eddie and Laurie...

It's time to recap three weeks' worth of Tsubasa again. Siiiiiigh. Oh well. I'm home sick on a Friday night, so I might as well channel my snarky rage into doing something productive. For certain limited definitions of "productive."

So, here we go. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle chapters 213, 214, and 215.

One Sakura to rule them all,
One Sakura to find them,
One Sakura to lead them all
And in the darkness bind them.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Sakura has been more of a lifeless prop than an actual character for the majority of this series, anyway.)

Blah blah blah. )

Next up, a two-week break. Thank God. Is your brain melted yet?
nenena: (Tink - Cheers!)
Hey, look what [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory and I are doing!

Lookeeeeeee!

And yes, we are still very very interested in getting guest posts from anybody and everybody interested. Personally, I'd be especially interested in hearing from somebody with experience using science- or math-focused comics, i.e. The Manga Guide to Statistics.

Also, since I haven't plugged this in a while, and hey, a reminder never hurts:

We're still working on this totally awesome map of feminist-friendly comic book stores, and I only added two lonely little submissions this month. If you know of an awesome comic book store that deserves to be on the map, please submit one!

Finally... Watchmen: Portraits. WOW.

Amar Chitra Katha is taking suggestions for real Indian HEROES to make comic books about!

More details at the link. Now would be an excellent time to start nominating more historical women leaders (*cough*Jijabai*cough*).

Second, your goddammit Japan! link of the day: Here, let me ruin Watchmen for you forever.

There is a new Watchmen trailer floating around out there, somewhere, yes? I can't wait to see it.
nenena: (Soul Eater - FUCK YEAH)

1. According to the rumor mill, Funi has licensed Soul Eater. I can't find a link to confirm that yet, but... HELL YEAH! I really really hope that's true. Of course with Soul Eater it was only a matter of time, but still. I'm so glad that Funi got it. To think, it could've been snagged by Bandai. (*shudders*)

2. Opera in manga form! Somehow Tosca is a thousand times more tolerable in comic form than it was that one time I remember suffering through seeing it on stage.

3. Onamatopeia from around the world! (Warning: sound auto-loads.) I just wasted an hour of time playing around here. It is addictive.

4. New Watchmen trailer, and new character posters. Fanboys, start your bleating.

I suppose I could make a comment here about how Laurie is totally getting the sexist shaft in all of the movie's trailers, posters, and other promotional material so far... But meh. She got the sexist shaft in the original graphic novel, too. I'm going to let other people tackle this one, I'm just too tired to explain "why Laurie's depiction is sexist" right now, and I don't want to deal with the rabid Moore fanboys who jump ravenously at the opportunity to say otherwise. Dudes, I've read two-thousand-word essays devoted to explaining why Moore was totally deconstructing comic-book sexism through Laurie, and how he was actually making a totally feminist statement with her character, and... Y'know, I just ain't buying it. I ain't. Even if Moore was actually trying to make a feminist statement with Laurie, I think he failed miserably. Oh well. Frankly I enjoy Watchmen on too many other levels, and I think that it is far too brilliant otherwise, to let myself get hung up on Laurie. And yes I am totally totally looking forward to this movie. Retroactive 80's-era sexism and all.

5. Okay, enough about Watchmen. This, on the other hand, is the greatest thing ever.
nenena: (Mahabrooks - liek omg OT3)
Go to Perspective Studios, click on "Our Work," then on the screenshot of the bearded scarred dude.

Initial reactions:

ZOMG ARJUNA IN A PONYTAIL.

Um, guesses as to who the second featured character, the one with the staff/whip, is? My first thought was "staff = Yudhisthira," but I dunno. I mean, if you were making a preview of your cool sci-fi version of the Mahabharata and you could only feature two characters, would freakin' Yudhisthira be one of your top picks? Probably not. My second guess would be Bhima, but dude, where's the giant smashy-mace? I want to see BHIMA SMASH, not BHIMA ELEGANTLY DANCES AND DELICATELY STABS THINGS.

The cityscape backgrounds look amazing.

Generic background music is generic.

So, internets. When are you going to make with the Grant Morrison sketchbook scans?

Edited to add: A little bit of MBX-related chatter in this coverage of the "Spirit of the Superhero" panel.

And yes, that's basically the only internet coverage of any of Virgin's SDCC presence that I've been able to find so far. Not that I'm complaining about the deluge of Watchmen coverage, though. Because hot damn does Dr. Manhattan have a finely-sculpted blue ass.

First! Girl-Wonder.org wants YOU to a) enter contests and b) submit writing and/or artwork for our upcoming newsletter. Or at the very least, please spread the word as far and as wide as you can. We're hoping to get a diverse group of contributors submitting content for the newsletter. Hopefully.

Second! Me blathering about comics. Anyway, here are a bunch of short comicly reviews, all from Virgin's Shakti line.

Ramayan, India Authentic, Project: Kalki, Devi, and Kshatriya. )
