nenena: (Soul Eater - FUCK YEAH)

Things that make me happy.

1. According to the rumor mill, Funi has licensed Soul Eater. I can't find a link to confirm that yet, but... HELL YEAH! I really really hope that's true. Of course with Soul Eater it was only a matter of time, but still. I'm so glad that Funi got it. To think, it could've been snagged by Bandai. (*shudders*)

2. Opera in manga form! Somehow Tosca is a thousand times more tolerable in comic form than it was that one time I remember suffering through seeing it on stage.

3. Onamatopeia from around the world! (Warning: sound auto-loads.) I just wasted an hour of time playing around here. It is addictive.

4. New Watchmen trailer, and new character posters. Fanboys, start your bleating.

I suppose I could make a comment here about how Laurie is totally getting the sexist shaft in all of the movie's trailers, posters, and other promotional material so far... But meh. She got the sexist shaft in the original graphic novel, too. I'm going to let other people tackle this one, I'm just too tired to explain "why Laurie's depiction is sexist" right now, and I don't want to deal with the rabid Moore fanboys who jump ravenously at the opportunity to say otherwise. Dudes, I've read two-thousand-word essays devoted to explaining why Moore was totally deconstructing comic-book sexism through Laurie, and how he was actually making a totally feminist statement with her character, and... Y'know, I just ain't buying it. I ain't. Even if Moore was actually trying to make a feminist statement with Laurie, I think he failed miserably. Oh well. Frankly I enjoy Watchmen on too many other levels, and I think that it is far too brilliant otherwise, to let myself get hung up on Laurie. And yes I am totally totally looking forward to this movie. Retroactive 80's-era sexism and all.

5. Okay, enough about Watchmen. This, on the other hand, is the greatest thing ever.

That onomatopoeia site was amusing. :) They've got the Chinese ones right. As far as I've seen.

I'll feel like a moron if I'm wrong but all the links literally said they were taken down because the video was copyright infringement because it belonged to Funimation entertainment. Literally ALL the veoh videos that were labeled were gone last time I checked.

It's a fighting shonen done by Funi, so I'm just wondering if they're gonna push to get it on tv.

...If the manga's not even out in America yet, I highly doubt that the anime will be licensed anytime soon...

To keiichi_chan - I've watched episodes on Veoh just fine. I haven't come across any that said they were taken down, let alone because of a license. o.o

The Manga of Soul Eater has been licensed by Yen Press, and the first few chapters have already been printed in their anthology "Yen Plus." Presumably the collected volume will come out soon.

If you look at the Yen Press website, it says the first volume won't be out until October 2009. =/ That's quite a long way...

The manga has been out a while now in the U.S. but it's via the Yen Press manga anthology and the 1st Tank hits stores very early next year I think?
..try YT then.

YT's never been an ideal place to watch anime. The Japanese license might not want it on there..

As for the anthology...I don't think they'd work on the anime based off of that. It would make more sense until the volumes come out and rack up sales, ne?

Yus. :\ I dun buy it either, and I'm getting a bit tired of "oh it's MEANT to be like that to be ttlly subversive and like. you just dun get the LAYERS man, the LAYERS" as a "Get out of criticism free" card for sexism/racism/ablism/transphobia/homophobia/etc :\

But I also enjoy Watchmen despite that :] I dunno why some ppl act like you can't be critical of stuff or aware of the prejudices in something and still enjoy it for other reasons :\

Yes. This.

I hate running up against people who think that because I choose to criticize one aspect of something, that means that I hate the whole thing and the author, too. (Whedon fans tend to be the worst of this lot.)

I mean, I love me some Alan Moore and Joss Whedon and all, and I am perfectly capable of enjoying their works while at the same time being aware of their flaws. And, you know, reading and listening to intelligent people pointing out these flaws doesn't "ruin" the whole thing for me, either.

FUCK YEAH SOUL EATER!

Also, I have trouble taking seriously anyone who thinks of Alan Moore's stuff as particularly feminist, given his penchant of putting a rape or attempted rape of a woman in EVERYTHING HE DOES EVER.

It's like, he's a good writer, BUT.
