Giant Linkspam Post of Doom

Linkspam > Boredom. Let's go.

Fit the first: Nerdy fangirl stuff.

First... Hey, did you know that Makoto Shinkai hails from Nagano-ken? From Shinano, specifically, which is right near where I live right now? No, I didn't know! And I kind of don't care, because I'm probably the only person on the planet who dislikes Makoto Shinkai's films (The Place Promised in Our Early Days was cheap predictable emotionally manipulative crap with zero payoff, peoples!), but I guess it's kind of something to be proud of. Anyway, Shinkai's most recent project was not some overhyped anime film, but rather a set of two adorable commercials for the local Shinano newspaper. Awwwww. Now if only Shinkai would stick to making adorable commercials and leave the anime movies to people who can actually write. Okay, okay. That was the last Shinkai slam in this livejournal. I promise.

In more cheerful news: OMG CITIES OF GOLD ON DVD!!!!!

The Simpsons fashion spread in Harper's Bazaar.

This is the best damn blog post about Evangelion ever written. Seriously.

Lonely Gods: The Treatment of Social Minorities in American Superhero Comic Books. This is such a fantastic resource. Why isn't it getting linked around more?

If I were more cynical, I would say that this is merely a desperate attempt to generate some good feminist street cred after a certain PR disaster earlier this year. Which, come on, let's not kid ourselves, it totally is. But I don't mind because it's actually a really good set of articles.

OMG Ramayan 3392 MMORG OMG! Now, if only this (remember that?) would hurry up and get online, that would be super-sweet.

An old discussion, but still a damn interesting comparison: Is fanfiction folk art? I would say yes.

Speaking of fanfiction, art, and fiction that stretches the definition of "art".... It's almost time for Argonathon 2007! I can't wait.

And finally... Join the Fangirl Project!

And now, a picture:

This obviously came from Worth1000.com, but I can't for the life of me find who to credit for it.

Fit the Second: For the nerdy linguaphile within all of us. Or maybe just within me.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day has come and gone, but it's never the wrong time of year to refresh yourself on the basics.

The giant Indo-European Etymological Dictionary of DOOM. Is it sad that I like to play with this when I'm bored?

Also way too nerdily amusing: The International Dialects of English Archive.

Still bored? Too nerdy for you? Need to unleash your inner illiterate internet troll? Have no fear - Blogwar Bot is here to argue with you!

Also, via [livejournal.com profile] furikku: the Gender Genie will tell you whether your livejournal entries were written by a man or a woman. In case you were ever unsure what was going on in your pants while you were writing any given entry.

And finally, the greatest short story ever written.

Bonus awesome: How to Make a Real Taco. Although I maintain that there is no shame in making and eating the Americanized version, however, as it's quite a tasty invention. As long as you're not fooling yourself into thinking that you're eating a REAL MEXICAN TACO, that is.

At last, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, at some point, in the future, maybe. I think I'll wait until we get a definite release date before putting my party hat on, but at least it's better than nothing.

Thanks kindly for the heads up.

The Gender Genie keeps on telling me my entries were written by a male. I think only one or two of my entries were said to be written by a female. Go figure. :\

Bonus awesome: How to Make a Real Taco.
Holy crap, I've seen the light. I want a REAL Mexican taco, not the cheap imitations I've come to know of, dammit!!
