Also, this is the first time that I've encountered the phrase "tentpole film." What is that, exactly?

The phrase compares a film to a tentpole. In the same way a tentpole basically holds a whole tent up, a "tentpole film" supports a studio throughout a season, with no help from other films. A studio's "tentpole film" is essentially the only film that is earning that studio any money during a set amount of time (such as the summer).

Gambit FTW! I was so sad he never showed up in the X-men movies. Then again, since they totally re-did Rouge's character, having Gambit around would've been a little weird....
