An X-Men Post.
So my
help_japan fic auction winner basically gave me the most awesome prompts for an X-Men fic ever but unfortunately I'm now two complete drafts into the darn thing and I'm still not happy with it. :( Arrrrrrrgh, fic-writing! I feel like a tool for not having finished the fic yet despite having thrown so many words into it. I'm starting to get a bit happier with the way that it's going now, though, so I hope hope hope hope hope to have it finished next week.
On the positive side, however, writing X-fic has given me an excuse to brush up on current X-Men canon after having taken a break for over a year and oh my god why did nobody tell me that the current X-canon is so sparkly and wonderful and awesome and a thousand times better than the grimdark depressing mess that it was when I last stopped reading it? Storylines that are actually fun instead of just relentlessly depressing? Check! A whole bunch of the most awesome characters from the 70's and 80's re-joining the active X-Men roster and getting tons ofscreen panel-time and awesome character development? Check! Epic Magneto redemption arc? Check! 4th-gen X-Men characters taking starring roles in the main series instead of just being shuffled off to the sidelines the way that the 3rd-gen characters were? Double-check! Rogue fucking FINALLY in control of her powers? HELL YEAH!
Also, the new crop of "character trailers" just released for the X-Men: First Class movie have utterly and completely sold me on the film.

Why yes, it is extremely disappointing that only one out of the four trailers is for a female character and that half of the footage in Mystique's trailer is recycled footage from Hank's trailer. (*sigh*) Hopefully the movie itself will be better than the marketing in terms of giving awesome women screentime, though?
Last thing: Although I swore I would never do this, I did end up reading a whole bunch of backissues from the third Wolverine series as they are HIGHLY RELEVANT to the X-fic that is currently kicking my ass. And then I read a bunch more backissues because even though they were unrelated to X-fic backstory they were kind of AWESOME. I realize now that Logan is one of those characters that I can actually really like when he's being handled by a good writer and in a storyline that requires him to develop and/or show an emotional connection to another character instead of being all angsty about himself. And maybe I'm a dork because my reaction throughout pretty much the entire "Wolverine: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." story arc wasn't exactly OH FUCK YEAH WOLVERINE IS FIGHTING LIKE A MILLION NINJAS AND ROBOTS AND EVIL MUTANTS AND RIPPING PEOPLE'S GUTS OUT 'CAUSE HE'S LIKE A FUCKING ONE-MAN WORLD WAR III AND THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME (which I think is what the writers were going for) but more like UBWUBWUBWUBWUBWUBWU LOGAN IS SUCH AN AWESOME FRIEND TO JEAN-PAUL AND TO LIKE EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE YASHIDA FAMILY EVER. And it is worth noting that before Wolverine went all SUPER-COMMANDO on HYDRA/Dawn of the White Light's combined asses he did actually try to fight them with the Power of Frienship first.
'Course, this being the Marvel Universe and all, the Power of Friendship doesn't always work, especially if you're Wolverine. But the poor dude did try.

I'm also amused by the X-Men moving to San Francisco. It seems SO fitting, I'm surprised no one's done it years ago.
