This week's Tsubasa - Chapter 182

Man, I can't believe that CLAMP wasted an entire chapter having the characters talk about how they were about to go to the final world instead of, you know, actually going to the final world.

If this crappy pacing continues, there is no way that CLAMP can satisfyingly wrap up the series in the remaining 18 chapters. I mean, what if they waste ten chapters having Syaoran fight small-fry Kyle, before he can move on to the big boss FWR? I hope that they don't. But considering the pattern that CLAMP has established in the previous 181 chapters, it kind of feels like they will.

It's time for the final battle! But first, we must Equip the Heroes. Tomoyo gives Kurogane his father's sword. Nice dramatic touch, there. (For those of you who missed the Celes arc: Kurogane lost both his arm and his sword in Celes Country. This was due mostly to the fact that the arm that he lost happened to be holding his sword when he lost it. Oops. But then Piffle!Tomoyo sent him an artificial replacement arm. So now he has a new arm and a new sword. Everything is back to normal!)

Fay doesn't need equipping. Fay is kind of badass right now.

Syaoran doesn't need equipping either, as he still has his sword, his magic, and his ability to kick people in the face.

And Sakura apparently has no role left in the story except to be tragically dead, so it goes without saying that she's not even there.

So, anyway.

Yuko, in some exposition that THANK GOD happened off-screen, apparently told Kurogane that FWR had wanted to employ him, but Tomoyo fortunately met him first. (This is not new information to us readers; it was revealed in the Celes arc. But it's new information to Kurogane.) Kurogane tells this to Tomoyo. She says that it wouldn't matter if FWR had employed Kurogane, because Kurogane does whatever the hell he wants and never listens to authority figures anyway. OH BURN. But so true.

Kurogane promises to return to Nihon Country and Tomoyo again. Good luck with that, dude.

Tomoyo also reveals that Kurogane's true name, the name only known to him and to her, is You-Ou (鷹王), which means "Falcon King." Neat.

Fay tells Syaoran, "Sakura is waiting for you." NO SHE'S NOT. One Sakura is dead, and the other Sakura has never met him. What the hell.

Fay and Kurogane put back on the clothes that they were first wearing at the beginning of the series. Except that Fay has gotten rid of his fluffy, fluffy overcoat. Probably a good idea, since they're going to Clow Country and it's damn hot there. He's still wearing his fluffy, fluffy undercoat, though. That's going to be uncomfortable.

Real!Syaoran dons clone!Syaoran's signature outfit. Eeeeeeek. This is almost as bad as that time that Rachel put on Jean's old Phoenix costume in the X-Men comics (right before they all ran off to Asgaard, for some reason, if memory serves... but I digress....) Anyway, urgh. This is just more of CLAMP force-feeding us the idea that the two Syaoran are interchangeable, just like the two Sakura are apparently now interchangeable... Except that they really, really aren't.

I have tow wonder if CLAMP is just tired of this initially cool idea for a series and is just pulling crap out of their butt right now.
