Darling Bhima!

Sitting around and waiting for my once-every-couple-months order of Virgin comics to come in, I've been amusing myself by plowing through my still giant stack of unread Amar Chitra Katha comics.

And then I found this: THE single greatest panel of Bhima ever created.

I think that speaks for itself. From #174/703 Tales of Yudhisthira.

Also, is the artwork in Karna really done by Ram Waeerkar? Really?! Because that's the artist credit on my copy (third printing of the Deluxe Edition), but the artwork looks NOTHING like Ram Waeerkar's distinctive style. Huh.

*falls over laughing*

I've always loved how the artists always gave Bhima an extra-bristly mustache... which makes me wonder, is the size and bristliness of the mustache directly proportional to the amount of strength?

That's IT! I can't believe I didn't notice that before. You are a genius. ^___^

Me, however, I can't stop laughing at "I, your darling!" Oh Bhima.

Think about it... all of the rakshasas, villains, and exceptionally strong characters always have the biggest, bristliest mustaches... It makes perfect sense...

Some part of my brain finds the phrase "darling Bhima" exceptionally funny... now I've got mental images of Bhima making puppy-dog eyes at his brothers so he can get more food...

would bhima make puppy-dog eyes? he would simply frown at yudi and mutter, 'still hungry', and yudi would hastily give up his portion, and everyone else would follow suit. i have my doubts of arjuna, but... no, he too pampered bhima.

i remember the mahabharata serial by sanjay khan, where the potter offers a pot of milk and another of rice to all the brothers. bhima simply grabs both pots and rushes out of the room, saying, 'thank you, now please get my brothers some more.'

hilarious! amar chitra katha is amar chitra katha...

however, i'll add a little footnote which i believe will make you grin some more - bhima never had a moustache in the original. yup, that's right. he is defined as 'tuuvara', someone who has no facial hair. karna even insults him using that term, remember? not that it bothered bhima, or interfered with his strength. no samson, our bhima :D

somehow, when your opponent is strong enough to reduce his opponents to shapeless, featureless balls of flesh, why oh why would you persist in taunting him?

especially if he has a very cute, very skilled archer brother who's also very ticked off at you...

then again, karna isn't known for his good judgment...
