The Suzumiya Haruhi PSP game is really, really distracting. I might actually have the attention span to play this one all the way through to the end.

Oh, anyway. Meme time!

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your lj with the answers to these questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask others in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

Game report time again! Like last time, I'm going to be reporting on dialogue and story events, rather than gameplay. For those of you who need help playing the game (and it does get devilishly difficult), Terminal Dogma has a very detailed walkthrough of the game available already. So from now on I'm not going to bother describing the action or puzzles so much. My report will focus on the story and dialogue.

Game report, through the end of the Tutorial Chapter. )

PS: Oh yeah, Pluggity Plug Mcplug Plug.

Yes, I have it. No, I haven't started playing it yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to hook up my new (used) PS2. I have underestimated how complicated this could be.

Ummmm... Whut?

I have a lot of fansites dedicated to manga series where I list Japanese books (and any existing English translations thereof) giving their ISBN numbers. Today I was updating Pearl Song, and I was looking up the ISBN numbers of the new English volumes, and I find that...

Well, great! Now every book in existence has TWO ISBN NUMBERS. Even the ones published AFTER January 1st, 2007 are still being assigned an ISBN-10 and an ISBN-13 number.

Screw that. I'm going to stick with the ISBN-10 numbers for now, because that's what I've been using on all of my websites. I understand that the world is supposed to be switching over to ISBN-13 somehow, but... Well, as long as all new books are still being assigned ISBN-10 numbers in addition to ISBN-13 numbers... What's the point?

Yay, it came today!

The artbook comes with an original A3-sized pinup of Sakura, which is the same as the image used on the cover.

The Ah! My Goddess section covers the span of Matsubara's artwork from the first season of the 2005-2007 TV anime, to the movie, to the OAV. Now I was expecting character designs, but got pretty much zilch - there is one page with a few quick sketches of Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld; the rest is full-color illustrative artwork. Quite a lot of it is full-page prints, which is nice. All of the TV anime first season DVD covers are here, and four out of five of them are full-page prints, so yay. Artwork used on the first three DVD boxes, the soundtracks and character singles, and many promotional posters and magazine illustrations are printed here too. Matsubara's movie and OAV artwork is included as well. Thus, disregarding the second season of the TV anime, the book is a comprehensive collection of the Ah! My Goddess artwork *done by Hidenori Matsubara* to date. (Of course a lot of stuff that isn't drawn by Matsubara is not included, duh.) It's all stuff that you've seen before, and honestly some of it (particularly the poster reprints) is available in a larger format elsewhere, but whatever.

The Sakura Taisen section is really the highlight of the book. For you fans out there, you'll know that Sakura Taisen official artwork is spread out thin between about ten different artbooks, so getting such a nice chunk of it in one fell swoop is a real treat. Again, character designs are restricted to a single page of sketches of Sakura, Erica, and Gemini. The rest is all illustrations. Deliciously enough, many of these illustrations were only available on programs and gifts sold at the Sakura Taisen musical shows. Which means that, unless you've actually been to one of these shows in Japan, the Sakura Taisen section of this artbook consists of a lot of gorgeous, full-page, full-color artwork that you've probably never seen before. And trust me when I say that Matsubara's watercolor paintings are to die for.

The Gankutsuou section is large, but also largely meh. If you own the Gankutsuou Complete artbook, then you've seen 90% of this stuff before. All of the magazine illustrations reprinted herein are half-page versions, with a few notable exceptions (like that Newtype pullout poster and the Comickers cover, full-page, yum). There are new reprints of the novel covers and pullout posters, but none of them are full-page versions. There are prints of two original phone cards that I had never seen before, and a reprint of the Albert's Diary book thingy cover that was new to me, as I have not yet seen the book.

Also included: full-to-quarter page galleries from Free Phone Line, Gungrave, Rurouni Kenshin, and Nadia.

Yes, because I am insane, I am going to scan all of the Ah! My Goddess TV artwork to post you know where. I also intend to scan the best of the Sakura Taisen stuff and upload it to animepaper.net.

The second Sorezore no Tsubasa drama album is out, and at the end of the album we have a sequel to the last album's creepiness! Yes, it's two new tracks of "Belldandy no Omake Voice" for all of you lonely otaku out there. So here are the tracks to download, and my translations:

Belldandy no Omake Voice 1: Belldandy Sends You Off

"It's almost time to get going! Are you sure you haven't forgotten anything? ...Okay, here's your handkerchief! What time do you think you'll be home? ...Okay. Please look forward to dinner! Goodbye! Take care of yourself! Please come back soon!"

Belldandy no Omake Voice 2: Belldandy Welcomes You Home

"Welcome back! You must be very tired. Shall I serve dinner soon? Or would you like to take a bath first? Eh, what's for dinner? Well of course, it's your favorite... (*giggle*) Just look forward to it! All right, while you take your bath, I'll prepare dinner. Well then, take your time. Oh, and be sure to call me when it's time to scrub your back!"

ETA: "Belldandy no Omake Voice" tracks are now permanently hosted on Megami Media, in case the above links expire.
