Heroes S2

Heroes marathon tonight. Heeeee! We played "Count the Mistakes from the Evil Overlord List" regarding Adam. Towards the end of the final episode, it just got ridiculous. For example...

1. So Adam has his Most Hated Object of Hate knocked out and helpless at his feet, he has a sword in his hand, and what does he do? He walks away.
*EDIT: Okay, having thought this over, I think I've come up with the reason: Adam couldn't kill Hiro right in front of Peter, because that would have caused Peter to begin to doubt him at the critical moment. Do I get a No-Prize now?

2. Also, nobody in the paper company warehouse - whether they were really paper company employees, Company agents, or whatever - seemed to notice or care that Hiro was just lying in the middle of them all of a sudden.

3. Come to think of it, how did Adam and Peter walk right into the paper company warehouse in the first place? Why did nobody stop them? Wouldn't anybody who worked for the Company recognize Adam instantly? And why didn't anybody try to restrain Hiro, either?

4. Why did Adam seem completely unconcerned about Hiro's ability? Why didn't he do something to kill Hiro right away?!

5. How does the virus spread? The Super Deadly Doom strain must be an airborne contagin, I would assume. But what about the other strains? Nikki said that she couldn't infect anybody else. Well then, how did the Haitian catch it? I think every other infected person (including Shanti?) was accounted for by being injected by the Company, but that doesn't explain how the Haitain picked it up.

6. Okay, this is the big one. Somebody PLEASE explain to me how changing the future would save Caitlin. If Peter changed history, wouldn't he wipe out the future in which Caitlin is trapped - and thus cause her to cease to exist? Okay, what if that doesn't happen? What if the future in which Caitlin is trapped suddenly morphs into a happy wonderful 2008 filled with fluffy bunnies and rainbows? Then what would happen to Caitlin? Would she remember what the future is "supposed" to be like because she came from outside the time stream? Would there still be any reason for her to be being deported back to Ireland? Or what?

Given the mechanics of time travel that have been established so far in the series, I think what Peter should have done was focus on returning to the future to pull Caitlin back, and then changing the future. But, given the time constraints that he believed he was operating under, I can see why he decided to go after the virus instead.

7. Why didn't Kensei do more to change the past? Did he try to come after Yaeko again? Did he try to conquer Japan again? Why did he decide to sit back and watch the course of history for 400 years, and then wait until the 1970s to finally do something about it? Especially since he seemed really gung-ho about changing history way back in 1671. Look, I understand that he got blown up, but it surely couldn't have taken him that long to recover.

8. Did we ever find out Kaito's power? And is Ma Petrelli's power telepathy, or was she just counting on the fact that Matt could read her thoughts, the way that Mr. Bennet did in the first season?

EDIT: 9. During the final battle, why the hell didn't Hiro, Matt, or Nathan tell Peter that Adam had tried to release the virus thirty years ago? Of all of their attempts at persuading Peter that Adam was evil, THAT piece of evidence was clearly the most damning. And yet Hiro, instead of telling Peter about that, gave a bunch of stupid "He was my friend but he betrayed me and killed my father!" speeches, which of course Adam could justify away. And Matt went for the generic "Listen to me, he's evil!" approach instead of explaining how he knew why. It wasn't until Nathan finally said "You know, Adam tried to release the virus before" that Peter went "OMG HOLY SHIT!" Yeah. I really don't know why Nathan (or Matt or Hiro) didn't say that earlier. Oh, wait. It was because the writers wanted an excuse to create a drawn-out, suspensful fight scene. But it's frustrating because it's like watching one of those sitcom misunderstandings that could have been totally solved if a certain character would just say one thing to another character, but for some inexplicable reason they don't.

And...

10. If I understand the chronology of the "Four Months Ago" events correctly, then... Did Nathan grow that massive beard in two days?

Okay, so. Adam's mistakes on the Evil Overlord List. There was some debate, but we counted: #4, #6, #36 (of sorts), #38, #41, #47, #53, #76 except that the consequences don't apply to him, and #92.

Hehe, I only watched the first season of Heroes. I waaaaaaaaaaaanted to like it. I was highly motivated to enjoy such a show. I love stuff like that! But the inconsistencies drove me CRAZY. It was like the writers were doing the show for ratings and nothing else. Plot holes? Who cares? They are too stupid to notice!

I mean, I'll give you some suspension of belief. That isn't a problem. I'll let you ignore some laws of physics and such. But you still have to TRY and make me believe this shit would happen.

Yeah, no kidding. I think that it's particularly tricky when you're dealing with time travel, because logical inconsistencies pop up all over the place. But there are things in Heroes that Make No Sense outside of the time travel stuff, and that's just headscratch-inducing.

Meh, watching Badly Written Villains is always instructional as far as I'm concerned. Considering that in my own writing project I've got a Big Bad Villain to handle right now, it always helps to take notes on what NOT to make him do.

You should watch the second season, though. It has its redeeming moments. And it's short! And Darth Parkman was pretty cool.

Ahaha, Heroes. It's such a cracktastically bad show that I just can't quit.

Yes to all of the logic gaps. Katy and I have long, involved head-scratching conversations about this show, and many of these discussions involve why the characters are such stupidheads.

Since Claire has the exact same power of regeneration as Adam, she can't age either, right? Peter now also has this power. Does he also not get to age?

I'm hoping that Peter and/or Hiro can 'port on over to March 2008 and save Caitlin, though I imagine that she will be able to remember how crappy it was. Though now that I think of it, now that the virus is destroyed, that future is completely different now. So I'm actually not sure how that works. Time travel worked so much better on Doctor Who.

Also, why are there so many people with the same powers? Like, did we really need another character who can fly? Or two telepaths? Or two regenerators? There is so much awesome material to draw on, people. Stop doubling up!

I'm also very curious about the abilities of the previous generation, especially Mrs. Petrelli and Hiro's dad (maybe he's a really exceptional swordsman?)

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. When does the aging stop? Will Claire grow any older and then stop aging, or will she be sixteen years old forever? That also kind of puts a damper on things like romance. I.E., if Peter of Claire ever hooked up with anybody, they wouldn't be able to grow old with that person.

Also, can you imagine how scary the thought of an immortal Sylar is?!

My nightmare scenario for the third season is: Sylar uses his super-hearing to hear Adam screaming for help, Sylar pulls him out of the grave, Sylar prompty kills him and steals his regenerative abilities, and BAM! Sylar is immortal. Note that this scenario would somehow have to involve Sylar being in Japan for some reason, though.

Then again, regenerators can be "killed" if their brains are stabbed or shot, so whatever. ;)

though I imagine that she will be able to remember how crappy it was.

Caitlin is like Bishop from the X-Men!

YES. Seriously.

It's funny how Sylar almost has the same power as Peter, but he eats brains to achieve his absorption. I guess eating people's brains does drive a man to crazy evilness. Plus he absorbed a bunch of really quirky things, like the super-hearing, and the super-memory.

And it would really suck if he were immortal.

If they keep going with the show, they might have to write their way out of the non-aging thing, 'cause Hayden whats-her-name is only going to grow up.

Whoops, that was my other personality blog.
