This week's Tsubasa.

Am I correct in assuming that the people reading this snark don't mind massive spoilers? Because I'm tired of writing in vague language. Spoilers, here we go.

So. There are two Sakura, and two Syaoran.

For those of you who need some catching up:

Syaoran #1 is the "real" Syaoran. We don't know what dimension he came from originally, although he is not the Earth 616 (Cardcaptor Sakura) Syaoran. But anyway, when he was a child he was captured by FWR, for some reason. And then FWR made a soulless clone of him (Syaoran #2) for the express purpose of hunting down Sakura's feathers. But Syaoran #1 gave one eye, and half his heart, to Syaoran #2. So that Syaoran #2 could be a real person and not just a soulless clone. Syaoran #2 is the Syaoran that we readers know from volume 1 of the manga.

Eventually the seal on Syaoran #2's eye breaks, and he loses his heart. Oh no! Then he turns into a psychotic evil monster who KILLS A LOT OF PEOPLE. And he also gains a shitload of super-invincible magic powers and the ability to hop dimensions on his own. Why? Because he eats one of Fay's eyes and it turns out that a) Fay's eyes are the source of his power and b) Fay was lying when he said that he wasn't powerful enough to cross dimensions more than once. Because he totally is.

But! Syaoran #1 busts out of FWR's dungeon and joins Our Heroes on their quest. So they lost one Syaoran but gained another Syaoran. So it's kind of like nothing changed. Except that Sakura vows to return her Syaoran's heart, and reacts rather cooly whenever Syaoran #1 tries to get closer to her.

And Fay has uber-magic now. Yay!

Then stuff happens. And Fay has no more uber-magic. Woe!

But he has twu wuv from Kurogane instead. Yay!

THEN! Sakura's soul gets separated from her body. (Long story. Blame Fay. Except not really.) So now Our Heroes are traveling with an EMPTY Sakura that's basically just a corpse, and the "true" Sakura (her soul) is hanging out in some dream dimension.

AND THEN! Both Syaorans end up in the dream dimesion and have a big fight, while Sakura sits around helplessly and screams a lot.

AND THEN! Dream!Sakura tries to prevent the two Syaorans from killing each other by throwing herself between them. BAD IDEA. She is shishkabobbed and killed.

AS SHE IS DYING SLOWLY AND HORRIBLY, dream!Sakura reveals that SHE TOO IS A CLONE (OH MY GOD) of the REAL SAKURA, who... something. I don't know. At this point, the plot holes got too big for me to wrap my brain around.

Dream Sakura's last words to Syaoran #1 are:

1. "As long as those two are still alive... We're not finished yet..."

and

2. "I love..."

Then Sakura dies. And CLAMP re-uses the exact same drawing of freaking!out!Syaoran #2 in two panels in two pages in a row, because they are lazy asses.

So, status right now:

Sakura #1 - Missing in Action. Where the heck is she?

Sakura #2 - The replica Sakura that FWR created and who went on a journey with Our Heroes. Her soul is dead, which I guess makes her body SUPER-DEAD, so in short, she is really really really really dead. Also, the body has just been kidnapped by Kyle. Who appeared out of NOWHERE.*

Syaoran #1 - Fainted after the big fight scene, but still alive.

Syaoran #2 - Has his heart back (IT ONLY TOOK THE DEATH OF HIS GIRLFRIEND) and is currently pursuing Kyle, who has Sakura's really really really really dead body.

So, possible endings that I see playing out from here:

1. The tragic ending. Sakura #2 is dead, and Syaoran #2 is about to die in some sort of confrontation with Kyle. But Syaoran #1 and Sakura #1 will go on to have a happy ending, somehow. Anyway, in this scenario, one couple dies and one couple lives. Knowing CLAMP, that's not an unlikely ending.

2. The super-tragic ending. Everybody dies. Nah, seems unlikely to me. If CLAMP were planning on another X, they would have sent clearer signals from the beginning.

3. The happy ending. Remember Sakura's dying words? As long as those two are still alive... We're not finished yet... In other words, a very convenient way for CLAMP to write themselves an out! In this scenario, Sakura will be resurrected, somehow. Syaoran #2 may die at some point, but he, too, will be resurrected. ALL FOUR kids will live happily ever after.

Mmmm. It will be interesting to see how this plays out from here.

* I so called it, that Kyle would show up again. And in snazzy new duds, too!

Ahahahahaha XD That was classic ♥

When I was on 2chan I thought I read that Sakura's soul entered Syaoran #2's body before Kyle took her body away, but I must've misread >>; *has not read the newest chapter yet*

I vote for something along the lines of #1 tragic ending. CLAMP's words before that all the characters would have a happy ending except one make me wonder if they're going to be cheap and make the unhappy one a clone (or the two clones) XD

I read that Sakura's soul entered Syaoran #2's body before Kyle took her body away, but I must've misread.

I think you could make an argument for that based on some of the artwork, but there's nothing in the dialogue to that effect.

What happens when Sakura's "soul" dies is that she bleeds a lot, then turns into sakura petals, and vanishes. Clone!Syaoran grabs one of the sakura petals, stares at it for a few panels, then it turns into light... or something. (The artwork is confusing.) Then c!Syaoran starts screaming and freaking out. I think that was supposed to symbolize the moment when he got his heart back, but you could make the argument that the petal that he grabbed, when it turned into light (and kinda sorta looked like it entered his body), symbolized a part of Sakura's soul entering him.

Well, I dunno. You've probably seen the chapter by now so I'll let you judge for yourself. ;)

Y'know, I love the art, and the story at first, but I'm starting to think I'll just stop collecting it, if the story is going to go insane like this. (Thank you for the synopses, I've been wondering what the heck happens.)

(Anybody want to buy the first 19 deluxe edition Japanese tanks? ;P )

Yeah.... At this point it's become like a bad Marvel comic.

Spiderman is a clone!
Iron Man is a skrull!!!

Oh, please.

EXACTLY. I'm really disappointed, I LOVED S/S in the beginning. Now it's like... say-whaaa..? Who? Which one was in love with what ohnevermind. I figure, I have the artbook, I'll look at the pretty pictures and move on. ^^;;;

Yeah, it's a real mess. Clone!Sakura is in love with clone!Syaoran, and vice versa. That's been established. But real!Syaoran is also in love with clone!Sakura. And as for real!Sakura, well, I have no idea where she is, or if she remembers the fact that she was also in love with clone!Syaoran before FWR kidnapped her. I don't know if the foursome can end up split into two happy twosomes. It doesn't look like it will work out that way.
