Mmm-hmm.

Well, Tsubasa is officially going to be at least 23 volumes long, if not longer.

Yeah, there's that little pacing problem again.

On the other hand, I am both looking forward to and dreading the upcoming OAV series, because it's the Tokyo arc, and it will of course be full of woe and angst and gore. But, on the other hand, it's the part of the story where Sakura finally rises up and kicks some righteous ass. It's like CLAMP finally remembered that Sakura is supposed to be, you know, awesome.

Bah, CLAMP is all about pacing, aren't they? They either unnecessarily drag out stories like X, or unreasonably rush good stories with unrealized potential like MKR or Angelic Layer :(

I am all about Sakura kicking some ass. That was one of the huge reasons I was so annoyed with Tsubasa. I mean, sure, I love Shaoran, but I need me some Sakura awesomeness to make it worthwhile. Oh, and I'd prefer new characters and new plotlines and better pacing, which is probably why I'm trying very hard not to read CLAMP anymore, particularly xxxHolic, which I will probably still break down and read at some point....

That's one long manga series. I wonder how they even manage to drag on continue a story without getting sick of it. I'd personally like to see CLAMP try out something new WITHOUT the ridiculous amount of crossovers, but that's just me. The fans still eat up Tsubasa and xxxHolic like cheesecake. In short, my opinion won't change a single thing. :\

I didn't know there was an upcoming OVA series. I'm not quite into CLAMP's works anymore, but seeing a stronger Sakura wouldn't hurt. Heck, one of the reasons I liked CCS was because of Sakura and her character development. My first disappointment in Tsubasa was how they portrayed her. Anyhow, I might check out the OVA for the heck of it. At the most, it'll be just really good eyecandy.

You're so right. MKR should have been longer. Tsubasa should have been shorter.

For the longest time CLAMP was claiming that they could finish up Tsubasa in 20 volumes. And they could have, too, if they hadn't given us a) an entire volume of Tomoyo talking to Sakura about nothing, and b) an entire volume of Fay moping and me wanting to kick him. I understand that all of that stuff is fanservice, in a sense. Not fanservice in the OMG-panty-flash sense, but fanservice in a squeee!-Tomoyo-is-so-cute and squee!-Fay-wants-to-kill-himself-yaya-angst! sense. But still, it's annoying. It makes the fans of certain characters happy, but it just drags out the story for the rest of us.

That is exactly my problem with Tsubasa. That they turned Sakura into a helpless damsel and Syaoran into a one-dimensional shounen fighting hero.

But seriosly, in the Tokyo arc? Sakura is unbelievably badass. She fights a shitload of monsters single-handedly. And then she continues to be unbelievably badass throughout the rest of the manga (at least, up through the current chapter). It's like her character does a complete 180. Of course, given that the Tokyo arc gives her a couple of damn good reasons to get pissed off at the world, I can see where the sudden kicking-ass-and-taking-names comes from.

Seconded. Right from the beginning I was disappointed in how Sakura was portrayed in Tsubasa. Syaoran, too, because he was basically turned into a stereotypical shounen hero. But seriously, Sakura gets WAY BETTER in the Tokyo arc.

And yeah, it will be eye candy. CLAMP anime always is, just like their manga. And that's pretty much the last reason that I'm reading Tsubasa right now. Because it is really, really pretty.

MKR2's manga just pissed me off. It was, like, no substance whatsoever (and Hikaru annoyed me). I actually like the second season of the anime better just because it had so much more story and character interaction and development. It's like the manga was just there just to base the anime off of something.

Is xxxholic any better than Tsubasa? I stopped reading Tsubasa around vol. 4 just because it bgot hard to follow, but I keep on reading xxxholic in the bookstores, but Del Rey is considerably behind the Japanese releases (which, strangely enough, just doens't bother me as much anymore as some titles used to like Ah! My Goddess). But CLAMP is all about eye-candy filler. Yummmy... candy... but it just seems like they're running out of steam, with several unfinished series like Gohou drug and X.
