Also Production I.G. was kind enough to release a clean digital version of their first promo image for the anime, and y'all should click through for full size because it is gorgeous.
I've only read one volume so far, and haven't really met any of the characters you talk about (*shakes fist at self*), but man is Isayama's art gorgeous and, you know, one of my very favorite guro kinks is important to the plot. So.
Uh, I think you might be the first person who's ever called Isayama's art gorgeous! But yeah the guro stuff is handled surprisingly well in the story - it's realistically gruesome without ever descending into the grimdark over-the-top territory that the trashiest ultraviolent manga wallow in.
I... actually really like Isayama's art as well. Of course it's extremely flawed but it has such a unique look, even if you can clearly see the influence of Tsutomu Nihei. I'm not sure the manga would work as well with a different artist. Though it obviously wouldn't hurt if he learned how to draw human bodies better.
This looks amazing. I wonder how much it'll boost manga sales. Obviously it's never going to pull One Piece numbers, but it might sell as well as Naruto? Then again the tone and artstyle will probably prevent it from becoming a huge mainstream success like Jump's flagship titles.
Naruto outsold SnK by a ration of 4-to-1 last year (source), but you never know.
Still SnK just passed the "10 million copies in print" watermark this month, which is REALLY impressive for a manga that's only been in print for two years.
I read somewhere that when FMA got an anime it went from 150000 copies sold per volume to 1 million+? I'm not sure how reliable this is but if it's true SnK's popularity should skyrocket.

When I was in kindergarten I thought Mantenna from She-Ra was cute. (My mom worried about what kind of boys I'd bring home.)
Although tbh some of it is that I'm so used to Ohkubo's art and I...like it better. /shame
