Lightning-round SE 90/Not! 9 spoilers

The most important spoiler, obviously, is that this month's GanGan included the results of the earth-shatteringly important reader poll titled "Which Soul Eater character would you wish to be a part of your family?"

And somehow or other, Kid won.

Really, fandom? Really? You want to be related to that?!

And now for some less interesting spoilers.



Everybody going on the moon mission is saying their last farewells and writing final letters to their loved ones. THIS IS INSPIRING A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN THE LIKELIHOOD OF ANYBODY SURVIVING THE MISSION. Um.

Liz says that other than Kid or Patty there's nobody that she would want to give her final letter to, and they're both going on the mission. So there's no point in writing a letter.

Black Star says that although he wants to go on the kishin mission for the glory + reputation points, he's going to do the adult thing and go on the Spartoi mission that he was requested to go on instead. Aw Black Star, you've grown up so much.

Spirit is a huge dork and has a big huge dorky dork-dad moment with Maka.

Spirit is going on the mission too. Before he leaves, Big Daddy tells him that Kid's "awakening" is essential if they have any hope of victory over Asura.

Maka realizes that Crona is hiding out in the church where they first met. Proving once again that Maka is the most intelligent character in this manga. (Which I realize is damning with faint praise, but still.)

Medusa is with Crona. Kind of. I don't know. It might very well be Crona hallucinating, à la Stein. Anyway, the point is that I think Ohkubo is supposed to be drawing both parallels and contrasts wrt: the Spirit/Maka relationship and the Medusa/Crona relationship. But maybe I'm giving Ohkubo too much credit.

NOT! SPOILERS: It's mostly about Akane this month. The end. LOL this is the risk of repeating spoilers gleaned from 2ch. Akane isn't even *IN* Not! this month, and the only thing that happens is that Kana does a card reading for Jackie. A+ 2ch troll, would LOL again. SON OF ETA: Or I guess there was a nugget of truth to that after all, since Akane and Clay appear in chapter 90 this month!

PS - As usual, this month's new color illustrations (all six of them!) are all over the GanGan website and at shibusen.

Very tiny probably irrelevant and hardly a shippage moment but it made me say D'AW anyway. Thank god Liz and Patti going on the mission too. I was going to flip tables if they didn't.

Okay... HOW THE HELL DID KID WIN!? I'd probably pick Tsubaki or Marie, but KID!? He'd drive any family that isn't Shinigami insane!

Crona's hiding out in the church? Am I the only one who thinks that this just may be symbolic of something? Maybe it's just me.

And Black*Star finally got a big spotlight in the spinoff series.

Mmm, I strongly disagree that Spirit isn't a bad father - let's face it, anybody who would openly flirt with somebody else's mom at a birthday party in front of his little girl is a pretty fucking terrible father - but I still love him as a character, and I don't want him to die either. :(

LOL what kind of weird people read Soul Eater? XD But honestly, I would have voted Kid too. He's my favourite character and I'm quite patient when I want to ^^;

This month looks like a cute chapter, with all the goodbyes and final letters... Even though I'm still disappointed at the lack of affect between Kid and Big Daddy. By now I'm pretty sure they're not even going to talk about anything other than the mission (if they talk to each other at all) U___U

That's the kind of moment I was just hoping for. Suddenly my interest for this chapter increased.
Now if Ohkubo can give troika some pretty moment instead of the fail Kid's development has become I would be happy enough.

Oh wow, GanGan poll respondents, the question wasn't "who is your favorite character?" Kid's my favorite character, but really? IMO, the obvious choice would be either Liz or Patty, since they have the ONLY successful familial relationship in the entire series. In fact, I'd love to have them as sisters, even though I already have three.

So, Spirit is joining Kid, Liz, and Patty on the Kishin mission? If there's three weapons for one meister, am I being too hopeful to think that this could open up a possibility for some Meister!Patty action? :D

And I completely agree about Kid. I also live part of my life as Kid - diagnosed and medicated, thank you very much - and I wouldn't wish a mental illness like this on anybody's family tree.

NO NO NO...I DO NOT WANT TO BE RELATED TO KID...his OCD would make me crazy, and my asymmetrical mess on my head I call hair might make him crazy too. I would prefer Patti...I think a crazy little sister would go well with my normal little sister...we'll be a perfect trio.

As for the rest...I do wonder if Kid will be writing a letter to Big Daddy, i'd love to see what it says...also if he can get past just writing his name symmetrically (anime reference) But yeah...obviously everyone feels good about this one...

So of course Maka will go to Crona, so maybe seeing Maka will help? or be horrible, i can't tell which right now. It's sad she's the smartest chatacter...sorta...

Hmm. I'd probably want to be related to Maka, honestly. I love her as a character. I love Kid so much, but his Symmetry Obsession would just………yeah.

Looks like the Maka/Crona battle is gonna be awesome~! X3 Can't wait.

….Oh yeah, and the………moon battle, too. I don't know. I just think I'll like the Maka/Chrona battle better :3 (Even though Chrona will most likely die. But still.)

Well, if I remember correctly he didn't know that Maka was watching him then, so it's not like he deliberately did it in front of her. He's a downright god AWFUL husband, but I don't think that being a bad husband automatically makes you a bad father as well. He's obviously not the best, but like I said I don't think he's bad overall.

I just wish he would stop being an idiot and actually do something that would make Maka trust him again, instead of lying to her.

I'm really sorry, it's just…………speaking as a girl who's actually BEEN in Maka's position, he may not be doing it intentionally to hurt Maka's feelings- just like he wasn't deliberately cheating on his wife- but it still kind of hurts like a bitch when you find out. I was never as young as Maka was, but still. That's even worse. When you're a little girl, you typically have that ideal of "mommy and daddy love each other", but Spirit just kept twisting that by saying he DID love Kami, when he went behind her back and flirted/who knows what else with other women. And when you're a parent, you're supposed to have a commitment to be faithful not only to your wife, but in turn, your child as well. Marriage means commitment. And Spirit did not exercise that. By betraying his wife, he betrayed his whole family.

I'm sorry, I just wanted to try and help to understand (>n<) i'm not trying to be mean or rude or anything. I'm also the daughter of a Marriage and Family Therapist (ironically) so blame that. XD

Yes yes yes THIS.

Spirit may not actually want to hurt Maka, but that doesn't change the fact that he is still doing something that he knows is hurting Maka. A good father would, you know, actually stop doing the shit that's hurting his daughter. Spirit didn't. It doesn't matter how many excuses anybody may make for him - that he was weak-willed, that he couldn't help himself, etc. - it still boils down to the same thing in the end. A man who is so weak-willed that he is unable to stop hurting his family is, by definition, a terrible father.

When Spirit betrayed his wife, Maka found out and got upset. And Maka kept finding out and kept getting upset over and over again, because Maka cared about her mother and was legitimately pissed at her father for hurting the mother that she cared about. It doesn't matter whether at any given moment Spirit knew that Maka was watching him or not. The point is that HE knew that he was betraying his family's trust and that they wanted him to stop hitting on other women, but he went ahead and did it anyway. That's being a shitty husband and a shitty parent. End of story.

Logically and long-term speaking, I wouldn't want Kidd related to me, fantasy, in my imagination where I can exert all sorts of control in unobtainable in reality, why not. Though why you'd want to be related is an odd thing... unless you're hoping to pick up shinigami powers to go with the shidig, that would be kinda cool.

Well, the chapter sounds a step up from redundant disappointment that been happening for a while. Troika hints, as minor as they seem, are still hints. And as another mentioned, I'd be interested in knowing what Kidd wrote, knowing it's probably addressed to Big Daddy.

And NOT's only got Akane this month ( not that I'm complaining but... ) I'd like to see more about Shaula, or Clay even. Still, you've only given preliminary spoilers, so it'll obviously go into more than just Akane this month... right?

I've also been in Maka's position, though, though genders reversed. My mum didn't cheat, but she wasn't in love with my dad anymore and told him as such. It was always awkward, but, on the other hand, my dad barely gives me the time of day when I see him. He's always too busy with his new life, rather like Maka's mother. Spirit at least stayed, and tried to pay attention to her, where-as Maka's mother has never even been shown to send a post card except in the anime, and that was for an anime-only plot.
