Jenna Jameson's Shadow Hunter

For those of you who aren't too keen on visiting Playboy's website to download Virgin's preview PDF, [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily has some slightly-too-small-to-be-legible preview pages posted of Shadow Hunter. A readable version of the preview pages is also online here.

I'm going to add my voice to the general chorus:

1. The artwork is gorgeous. Then again, "gorgeous" is par for the course for Mukesh Singh.
2. I wasn't planning on picking up this comic, but now I think I'll give it a try.
3. "Girl with sword fighting monsters" is almost always a winning formula.
4. Goddamn that's some awesomely cheesy dialogue. It's almost Golden Age in its sheer straightforward cracktasticness. I mean, brain wormholes! Brain wormholes! That's... that's really awesome.

But, ugh. Some of the comments at [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily are filled with disdain at the very thought of a porn actress doing something other than porn, which is not surprising given that we've heard that refrain before, but is still depressing to read nonetheless.

Having said that, I'm still not keen on some of the cover artwork coming down the line. Greg Horn can draw some pretty hot fap material, but there's nothing even remotely resembling that level of gratuitousness within the actual pages of issue #0. (Assuming that the whole thing is posted online, that is. I may be wrong, there may be more that I just haven't seen yet.) I can't state the contrast better than [livejournal.com profile] simargl_wings already did: The cover says "I am porn!" The inside pages say "I am not porn!" Which one is it meant to be, damn it?

In contrast, for issue #1, we have a choice between some really painful-looking impossible anatomy, or, ugh, LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND! Now, here we have a guy who's notorious for tracing pornography instead of actually drawing superheroines, and he finally gets an opportunity to trace a porn star in a context in which nobody would begrudge him for doing so, and what does he do...? I'm assuming that he didn't actually trace Jenna Jameson, because whoever that lady on the cover is, it looks nothing like Jenna Jameson.

On the other hand, I really like this artwork, and both covers for issue #2 look very nice, too.

Like [livejournal.com profile] simargl_wings said:
Wonder Woman is porn, Jenna Jameson is not porn....it's not wonder the edges of the blogosphere keep crashing into each other when the powers that be don't have a clue what they are producing for us.

Oh well. The next issue of India Authentic is Parashuram. Hell yes.

Heeeeeeeeeee brain wormholes. Didn't those also show up in Donnie Darko?

I'm biased because one of my best friends is editing this series, but -

The art is gorgeous.
The premise is solid.
And the comic looks like it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun.
Why shouldn't Jenna Jameson want to make comics? I want to make comics. =)
