Soul Eater 88 / Soul Eater Not! 07 lightning-round spoilers
First of all, yes, this chapter is numbered 87. As was last month's chapter.
I assume that this was just a typo and that this is indeed supposed to be chapter 88 that I'm looking at right here, and I also assume that this will be corrected in the eventual volume release.
But hey, this is Ohkubo, the guy for whom the number 72 apparently does not exist, so when weird numbering shit happens I guess we just never know.
Soul Eater: Ohkubo gets some Herman Melville shit up in this manga. Long story short, Maka+Black Star fight a giant sky whale (no really), Kid has a brief conversation with Eibon that goes absolutely nowhere (big surprise), Tsubaki and Soul actually have roles in this chapter but Liz and Patti don't even make a single appearance, and the BIG SHOCKER at the end is that Marie tells Maka that Crona has been added to Shinigami-sama's list and that the Spartoi have been ordered to go after hir. I think what's far more surprising is the fact that apparently Crona wasn't listed on Shinigami-sama's list before.
Soul Eater Not! Juuuuuuust kidding! Akane was just joking when he asked Tsugumi to be his partner. He then tells Tsugumi that since she's only been at Shibusen for two weeks, she shouldn't be too worried about not really having a clear goal for herself yet. But then he tells her that if after one year she still doesn't understand her purpose for being at Shibusen, she can look him up.
Next, it's track and field day! So apparently all of the girls at Shibusen have to wear Japanese-style bloomers for their gym uniformsbecause Big Daddy is a giant weaboo, but Anya's like "FUCK YOU OHKUBO" and wears track pants instead. Go Anya.
So it turns out that Anya and Me-Me are really good athletes, but Tsugumi sucks at everything. Tsugumi also notices that Akane is staring a lot at Anya. Hmm. Hmmmmmmmmm.
At the end of the day, Tsugumi is feeling miserable and humiliated because she sucks at everything, and she feels like she let Anya and Me-Me down. Akane tries to cheer her up by saying that he could tell that she was trying really hard all day long. Tsugumi tells Akane that although she still doesn't understand her real reason for being at Shibusen, in the short term her goal is not to loose to Anya and Me-Me, so she's going to have to train harder.
The chapter ends with Tsugumi standing on the track and think-bubbling to herself that she doesn't have to worry about her end goal yet, because she's only just arrived at the starting line. Now that is a painfully forced sports analogy if I ever heard one.

God fucking dammit X: I was hoping it was something significant this time. And Liz and Patti need to just come in there and, I dunno, play random paddleball or something until something relevant happens.
The giant sky whale was awesome though.

YAY finally Ohkubo, you have finally destroyed my faith in seeing some Thompson action or just doing something more that being just Kid's guns, ugh...not interested in what Kid is doing anymore.
Crona in Shinigami-sama's list? Not surprised at all, but excited about this! after seeing how powerful Crona is in battle with hir Black Blood, I so want to see a Spartoi VS Crona and Maka-Crona moments.
Also, I LOVED the colored page of SE Not, Anya ♥
