Oh god. I'm Canadian, and so this is just embarressing for me. I don't even like hockey, so seeing how much people here get worked up about it REALLY annoys me. Tons of people here are really annoyed at Vancouver too, so yeah, it's just stupid.

Fans in Vancouver who were displeased with the outcome then set fire to things, broke into buildings, and caused mass vandalism like a bunch of poor sports. 8|b

Being from New England (and having been witness to property damage sprees from Red Sox fans), I was totally expecting that kind of reaction from Bruins fans. Kind of surprised there were only a few (by few I mean around 5) arrests in the Boston area. Oh, Canada indeed.

ahh... I was there at the beginning when it happened. Not our best moment, not at all.
But I do need to say this; the only ones who took part in this were the dunktards and druggies. Everyone with a sane, level headed mind went home within the first 20minutes or so, that only left two other groups.

1. The dicks who came downtown ONLY TO START A RIOT REGARDLESS OF THE GAME.
2. people who just stood around watching and taking pictures.

Everyone's pissed at Vancouver while Vancouver's pissed at itself. But all those pictures are being used as tips for the police, people have been turning themselves in, the media sure is doing a good job of publicly shaming offenders, and best of all, Vancouverites have been volunteering to clean up downtown. :)

I read the article and its major argument seemed to be "it's not that people rioted because we lost the hockey game, it's that people rioted because a small group of people wanted to start a riot for shits and giggles."

Which is really not any better. I think the point in the macro still stands.

But I know that most of Vancouver is still awesome and I think that the cleanup efforts are going a long way toward reminding the rest of the world of that. :)
