Iwashita-sensei blogs about villagers in Okinawa being forced out of their homes because of construction of a new US military base. This despite the villagers twice voting against the city government accepting the military construction contracts in democratic elections. Oh hey way to be all about protecting democratic freedoms on other countries thar, USA.

You see, in my country, much more attention in history classes is paid to the East-Europe front of WWII.
So, well, I knew about USA occupying Japan by the end of the war and that Japan was forbidden from having military forces since that time (only these Self-Defence forces), but I had NO IDEA that USA STILL has military bases there on a regular basis.
Well, guess "you learn something new every day" or so they say, right?
