Every month. Every fucking month.

As soon as scanslations for the latest SE chapter are available, [livejournal.com profile] repelsteeltju shows up to troll my journal.

Here he is.

And here he is again.

Public post because, again, Creeps likes to play the innocent martyr whenever he's called out on his bullshit. The public record shows otherwise, though.

(Wooooooooooow he actually thinks that I post on 4chan? Although even more telling is the fact that apparently posters on 4chan are calling him out for his entitlement and misogyny, too. 4chan. When freakin' 4chan is calling somebody out on misogyny and fandom entitlement, then you know that it's bad.)

Edited to add: All right flist, you win. Although I am loathe to break my personal no-banning rule that I have upheld in this journal for six years, I can recognize a continued mistake when I'm making it. Congratulations, [livejournal.com profile] repelsteeltju, you are officially the first ever person to be banned from my livejournal.

Consider this an act of mercy. Since you keep showing up here every month to tie your own noose and hang yourself, I figured that I should probably take that rope away from you. As amusing as your stupidity was, this journal will definitely be a better place without you.

And to my flist: You guys are awesome and you will never stop being awesome. Thank you for verbally smacking me upside the head, because I know that I'm a stubborn bitch and sometimes I do need it. ;)

Lord that guy's creepy.

Definitely an asshole. On the other hand, the phrase "don't feed the troll" kinda comes into play here. If you don't like him posting stupid crap in your journal, then take the initiative and ban him from commenting. Otherwise it's a bit like parking your car under a tree and then complaining that birds shat on it.

I didn't realise you were the only person on the internet using the words "entitlement" and "misogyny." You are clearly a much more prolific person than I thought.

"Don't feed the troll" is the correct policy for attention-seeking trolls. Creeps operates differently, though. He likes to troll female posters on livejournal and then run off to different forums and whine about how oppressed he is by meeaaaaan girls. Drawing public attention to the fact that he's always the instigator is the best way to deal with his particular brand of asshattery.

Reeps is a very special type of troll for whom his reputation matters a lot. I've seen the type in comics fandom before. The only way to get them to shut up is to keep pointing out that they're the ones sinking their own reputations.

If you say so... doesn't seem to be working so far, that's all. You seem to be far more riled than he is. Good luck with it though!

Of course I'm riled. I don't like misogyny and I don't like stalkers.

Which is another reason why publicly calling out concern trolls like Creeps is important. It's one thing if a troll is spewing sexism, racism, or ablism solely for the sake of trolling. But a concern troll like Creeps genuinely believes the sexist and ablist things that he says. That crap needs to be called out when it happens. Even if Creeps himself doesn't get it, other people lurking to watch the drama will.

Again, I've seen this type of drama unfold before, particularly in the old Western comics versus sexism debates. When you have a sexist/racist/homophobic/whatever concern troll who really cares about his reputation the same way that Creeps does, repeated public finger-pointing is the only way to a) get them to shut up eventually and b) reinforce community norms that sexism/racism/homophobia/whatever are NOT OKAY in these here parts.

Well it seems that de-anoning has done nothing to quell Reep's special brand of creeptastic. And lol @ him "recognizing" you on 4chan because of those two special words that you use. Because no one else in the world has ever used those words.

[identity profile] the-sun-is-up.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I second this. If he bugs you so much, ban his ass. Otherwise he'll just keep coming back for more attention.

[identity profile] popcorn42.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
....
This is just ridiculous, all of it.

[identity profile] badninja.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, did he ever try to play martyr over being kicked off of shibusen? I kept trying to keep an eye out for that.

That does not work. He could easily make another username and come back. LJ is not as good at protecting their users as they pretend to be.

We've been over this. He would view a ban as a victory. I'm not going to give him the satisfaction.

I've kept an Open Journal policy for six years. I've dealt with far worse trolls than Creeps before. I have yet to ban a single person from commenting and and I'm not going to give Creeps the honor of being the first.

I'm a big girl, and this is how I choose to run my journal. People are free to show up here and act like assholes. They are also free to receive the response that they deserve in return. It's much more satisfying to see trolls melt down, make asses of themselves, and then slink away with their tail between their legs than outright banning them anyway. ;)

[identity profile] mic-soldier.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly have to wonder what would happen if we all just did not reply to him anymore.

[identity profile] the-sun-is-up.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
He got kicked off of shibusen? When did that happen?
ext_6355: (Default)

[identity profile] nenena.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple months back nobody replied to his trolling attempt on my recap post. It didn't work. He kept on merrily trolling [livejournal.com profile] shibusen and my journal instead.

The past two months when people have replied, however, he's dropped off the face of the fandom for weeks at a time. This is enough to convince me as to what's more effective.

[identity profile] badninja.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple weeks back. He's never getting membership again for at least as long as the current mod team is in place.

He hasn't done so on the animesuki forums, and that's where I've seen him bawwwwww the most before. (*shrug*)

[identity profile] badninja.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes me glad, actually, I've been trying to keep an eye out for him using a double journal or something, so now I can relax a little.

[identity profile] the-sun-is-up.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Suit yourself. I'm just saying, every time he trolls you, you go and complain about it in a public post. And this has such a devastating effect on him that he completely changes his ways and-- oh wait, no, he goes and trolls your journal again, business as usual. Reeps has this creepy idea that you're the one who's obsessed with him, but I can see where he gets it from because no matter how hard he trolls you, you refuse to ban him and you masochistically respond to every single comment he leaves you, no matter how stupid or transparently trollish. If I didn't know better, I'd deduce that you enjoy arguing with him.

[identity profile] the-sun-is-up.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well thank God for that, he was really a pain in the ass.
ext_6355: (Default)

[identity profile] nenena.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't, actually, respond to every comment that he leaves me. I haven't called out every comment that he leaves me, either. Only the ones where he's misogynist, racist, or ablist.

I tried ignoring him a couple months back when he trolled the recap post. It didn't work. He kept trolling me.

The past few months when I HAVE responded to his attempts to troll the recap post, he's completely shut up and dropped off the face of the fandom for four weeks. Four weeks is better than nothing.

The no-ban thing isn't about him. It's about MY journal policy. Again, I've had this policy in place for six years. I'm not going to change it for one person.

ETA: I'm starting to wonder if maybe there isn't somewhat of an internet culture clash going on here? My livejournal used to be primarily Western comics- and feminism-oriented, and the practice in those circles has always been to make a distinction between concern trolls versus troll-trolls. The former require public responses because they spew -isms in their comments and it is considered absolutely not okay to let that shit sit in the comments of your blog post unchallenged or unresponded to. Only the latter category of troll-trolls requires ignoring them. Creeps falls firmly into the former category, so that's how I've been dealing with him when he brings the -isms to the table. (Again, I have NOT responded to nor called out every comment that he's made on my journal, only the -ism-filled ones.) And now I'm having another of these moments where suddenly there's all these anime-fandom people commenting on my journal and slowly I'm realizing that there's apparently a veeeeerry different fandom norm at work here than what I'm used to. This isn't the first time that this has happened, either. ^^;; Now I have to do some thinky-thoughts about stuff and see where my thinky-thoughts go. There's a very different group of people reading my journal now than there was two years ago, so I guess maybe I should start taking that into consideration.

Maybe this whole anime internet culture would make more sense to me if I posted regularly on 4chan. ;)

Edited again: Fuck it, y'all win. His ass is banned.

I'm far more upset at myself for having broken my own six-year-old rule, though, than about anything having to do with him. I know, I know. I'm stubborn, so sue me.

Edit the third: And for the record, I do appreciate the whacking the over the head with the clue-by-four. So thank you for that.

This is why I'm lucky to have people who can call me out on my bullshit on my flist. ;) Now I'm going to stop editing this comment before I go over the character limit.

Okay, fuck it, you win. ;) Well, not just you, but a couple other people in the comments here and in PMs. I broke my own rule and banned his ass.

I'm more upset about having broken my own personal rule that I've upheld for six years, though, than about anything having to do with him. ^^;; Dunno what that says about me.

It is. And I was contributing to the ridiculousness. It took my flist beating me over the head with a clue-by-four to get me to see that. ^^;;

He's banned now. No more drama.
