nenena: (Soul Eater REVENGE)

Cthulhu Spampost

There has recently been some back-and-forth about Lovecraft, fanfic, and copyright across livejournal and dreamwidth that may be of interest to all y'all Ohkubo fans: George R. R. Martin kicks it off with some spectacular point-missing here, Nick Mamatas rebutts here, and the definitive word on the matter is metaquoted here.

Meanwhile, on 4chan....

The moral of this story is, never trust anyone you meet online in the ninth circle of Hell especially not if he flirts with you by calling you "cookie crumb" and ESPECIALLY not if he has tentacles on his mouth.

Man, Soul Eater is just a treasure trove of sensible relationship advice.

I bet you're really Cthulu and you're tricking us into trusting you.

Aren't you.

Shhhhhh! I was going to incorporate the Little Cthulhu video into the next chapter recap. Don't spoil it! ^^;;

That image from 4chan may very well be the best thing I've seen so far this month.

Hehe, sorry!

You are probably unaware that this post basically is my final paper for my info ethics class. Except I'm focusing on doujinshi/unauthorized sequels/HP Lexicon/etc. instead of Lovecraft.

STILL. I should forget writing my stupid paper and just link to this post, thereby having you earn my Masters degree for me. LOOK AT ME OUTWIT THE SYSTEM!

*cough*

Right. Back to work.

Ooh, are you going to write about doujinshi as camp performance? Because, hell to the fuck yeah.

Oooooh juicy topic is juicy. Have you been following the whole Diana Gabaldon thing?

>>Have you been following the whole Diana Gabaldon thing?<<

Obviously I fail at life, for I have not heard of this. Details?

It's kind of a mess. It started when DG posted on her blog about how fanfic is ZOMG WORST THAN SLAVERY and just snowballed from there.

This fandom_wank post has the beginnings of it (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1246633.html) (and the comments are very much worth reading, too). DG has since deleted all of her relevant blog posts, but [livejournal.com profile] kate_nepveu re-posted them here (http://kate-nepveu.livejournal.com/483239.html). George R. R. Martin's failpost is a direct response to DG's pearl-clutching.

Probably more interesting for you, though, are the essays about fanfic that have spawned from DG's comments, most of which are linked on the past couple posts in [livejournal.com profile] metafandom. There's a lot of really, really good stuff linked. It starts on May 4th and is still going now.
