Soul Eater Chapter 71/2 Post-Mortem

Of course everyone and their dog read the recap post during the thirty minutes before I caught that epic translation error and corrected it. Of course. That, or they opened the post in a new window/tab during that thirty minutes and then never bothered to refresh even an hour later. Because I was still getting comments about it even an hour after it had been corrected. And today I found multiple instances of people referencing it on forum posts even two days after the fact. Thirty minutes, people! It was only up for thirty minutes! If I'd had any idea how lightning-fast that misinformation could spread I would have been a lot more slow, careful, and paranoid about writing that recap.

Right now I'm working on translating some Fujiya Ramen doujinshi and getting all worked up and super-paranoid about it. Arrrrrrrgh! This is going to take all night.

I am still awesome'd by the fact that Ohkubo can't count to 71. Well, actually, I know that there's a perfectly mundane and unfunny explanation for why we have two chapter 71's, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to stop mocking the GanGan editors for it.

I'm surprised that nobody has been pedantic enough to comment on me making Lovecraft jokes in that entry, when Tsathoggua and Eibon are entirely Clark Ashton Smith's creations. Normally I can count on SE fans to be anal like that. What gives?

Mmm, I don't want to blame the fandom for repeating my translation mistake. I mean, I wrote what I wrote. I just wish that so many people hadn't looked at my post during the thirty minutes when that error was sitting there.

Edited to add: On the other hand, having been lurking in a couple forums tonight, I gotta say that I am endlessly amused by all the confusion that the Engrish scanslation of (the previous) chapter 71 seems to have caused. Since the scanslation completely omitted all of the information about the copy of the Book of Eibon and Shini's plan to link the two books, now all of the forums on the manga piracy sites are full of "WAIT HOW DID SHIBUSEN GET THE BOOK OF EIBON?!" posts that are just lulz. Endless lulz. And that one I *can* blame the stupidity of fandom for, since the scanslators apparently re-did their scanslation recently, but they still didn't bother to correct that enormous translation error. Among the many other errors in that release.

The fandom is going to be confuzzled for months because of that awful translation.

In my defense, at least I only made one error, and I caught and corrected it myself as soon as I could!

You know, I haven't read any of the Cthulhu Mythos. The closest I've come is a summary of The Shadow Over Innsmouth and an epic Sailor Moon + Ranma 1/2 + Cthulhu Mythos crossover fic (it is so disturbing and it works), which has me more tempted to read Lovecraft. Whenever I consider it, though, I flash back to this dream I once had that I was kidnapped by squid who ripped my skin off intact and replaced it with squid skin and enslaved me, and I read something else. I must shamefully admit I didn't know there were Cthulhu Mythos allusions in Soul Eater until your previous post.

I need to read more literature and less fanfic, I swear. Most of my books are boxed up though, and The Prince is proving drier than I thought it would be.

as you can tell from this thread. SE fandom is never been the smartest group of people.
(well at least these people)

Oh, awesome. Epic awesome. "What does it mean that Kid is a fragment of Shinigami-sama?" It means exactly what it says: That he's a fragment of Shinigami-sama.

OCCAM'S RAZOR, PEOPLE. OCCAM'S RAZOR.

I love how some almost had it.....then failed

My favorite one is this

"the fact that the great old one keeps calling kidd "little fragment" keeps triggering the long awaited question of who kidd's mom is, if he has one? is it because he has a human mother? or is his mother one of the 8 great warlords?

hmmm, questions, questions"

wow just wow...

then anther on the same thread

"kidd looks so hot.....i cant believe it i dont know why but the way ohkubo draws madness in guys makes 'em look so hooooooooooooooooot....dammit!!"

That was completely unrelated to the topic at hand!

AHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAH @hot Kid.

Seven deadly sins!!

(Anonymous) 2010-03-24 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I've been reading Umineko form months and traslating it to Spanish, so when I read all that stuff about the seven deadly sins, I couln't stop thinking of the Seven Sisters of Purgatory.
So, as a Umineko obsessed teen, I thought: "Asmodeus should have appeared with her cute uniform instead of that awful naked apron "thing" (C'me on!!! Only Etna from Disgaea can have a devil tail and still look cute)".
But genderswapped Soul made me lose a large amount of blood. u///u

Anyway. Awesome recap, as always.
I hope my English isn't too confusing.

Post Scriptum: Yay! You were right: Maka had the book!

Seven Deadly Sins =/= Dante's Inferno, but we'll see where Ohkubo is going with this.

Anyway. Awesome recap, as always.

Thank you!

Yay! You were right: Maka had the book!

That wasn't just me who thought that. It was like, half the fandom. ;) So we were all right.
