Does the universe really need that many Soul Eater watches?! Really?!

Okay, so they did actually make a replica of Kid's watch from episode 30, and that is admittedly pretty cool. Er, that is, they kind of made a replica of Kid's watch. They added an extra Soul Eater logo on both the inside and the outside, which kind of destroys the replica-ness of the thing, but oh well. I can't personally imagine ever spending money on such a thing, but I think it's awesome that it exists.

I dunno, I'm just kind of baffled by all of this. Does GE really think that they have a market for that many different Soul Eater watch designs? Aren't we like, in the middle of a depression or something? Isn't the North American anime industry supposed to be imploding on itself? Didn't Borders just lay off tons of employees? Is GE actually making money off these things, or are they just shooting themselves in the merchandising foot?

Never mind. Upon further inspection, most of these watch designs are either from China, or bootlegs, or bootlegs from China. GE isn't responsible for this merchandising mess, oops! I find it amusing that the only watch I could find listed by a seller based in the United States is an obvious bootleg. You can tell by the fact that there's fanart printed on the watch's packaging. Nice one, ultraanimation. Nice one.

I think this is the first time I've been a fan of something that has such merchandising potential. Most of my fandoms are too old/obscure to merit swag! So I'm going to be AOK with a wide variety of bizarre merchandise for a series I like being offered! (Especially since I'm not a big consumer in the "t-shirts, figures, and plushies" area.)
