Breaking in the new scanner (SCANSPAM!)
Good morning, internet!
I am still on vacation with the lovely
meiousei. But while we were in Tokyo, I finally bought a new scanner, as the old one was on its last legs. In order to properly inaugurate said new scanner, here's some high-res scanspam for y'all.

Cover of How to Make Deathscythe: Maka and her boys. My God, that white dress is SO UNBELIEVABLY BADASS. Awesome.

One of the interior illustrations: Maka and her girls. I... don't know why the bottom fades out like that. But that's what my copy of the book looks like. Blah.

Another interior illustration.

Another interior illustration. Pay careful attention to Kid's coffee cup.

Stickers from Animate. I LOVE these chibi designs. Edited to add: A super high-res scan with better colors is now here!
Larger scans from the packaging of some keychains that I bought. (Just the Troika, sorry.) And yes, those are all clickable for high-res versions.

Cover of February's Magazine Z, featuring the final chapter of the Sakura Taisen manga.

Comp Ace, with Saber Lily on the cover. Um. Ummmmm. Clearly my scanner is having issues with capturing flesh tones in watercolor-esque artwork. In my defense, it's still a brand new scanner, and I'm still experimenting with trying to get it to not suck. But IRL the colors in this image should be much thicker and warmer, with more red overtones, than they're showing up here. (I tried fixing the discoloration in Photoshop, but there wasn't much that I could do. I'm still working on the scanner-side of things, though.)
Edit: A much, much better scan is now available HERE.

The same image, again.

Cover of Fujishima Kosuke Gashuu. ARGH DISCOLORATION ARGH. I reaaaaally need to figure out how to fix that.

Cover illustration, beneath the dust jacket. This time the discoloration is due to printing crapfoolery, rather than my scanner. There's a full-page version of the same illustration inside the book that has much better colors, BUT. I absolutely refuse to scan anything from the interior of the book, as that would basically require breaking the book's binding, and I can't bear to do that to my copy of Gashuu. It's an AMAZING book, you guys. Seriously effing amazing. I don't have enough words to describe how gorgeous - and how gorgeously thorough - the book is. If you're an Ah! My Goddess fan, a Fujishima fan, or just a fan of bishoujo manga artwork done RIGHT, then you should definitely splurge and get yourself a copy of this book. It's hundreds of pages of amazing Fujishima artwork of beautiful women. Just gorgeous.
Aaaaand that's it for this scanspam post. The quadruple-whammy of Animage, Animedia, Newtype, and GanGan are all going to hit the streets in a mere two days, though. I will try to have relevant Soul Eater scans posted in a timely fashion. But no promises, as I am still officially ON VACATION for the next week.

Anyways, the cover of How to Make a Deathscythe looks RIDICULOUS!! I love the dark, sorta muted color pallete. That's pretty uncommon for manga, right?
And those Sakura Taisen pics are gorgeous! Were those done by the mangaka or Fujishima-sensei? The use of watercolor defintely resembles his style but it actually looks better than his more recent stuff.
Atleast he has refined his current style and now Belldandy looks really good. I just wish he could improve the same way with Urd and...especially Skuld.

I know that Fujishima doesn't draw the ST manga, it's some other guy who happens to be really, really good at imitating Fujishima's style. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It certainly served Hidenori Matsubara well. ;)

And I swear, that's what I read in Soul's t-shirt in the Deathbucks picture.
