Two completely unrelated links.

If you don't yet own a copy of CLAMP's Clover, now is a great time to get one. In case anyone needed a reminder of what CLAMP is really capable of, when they're not, you know, writing Tsubasa.

Next, a scathing takedown of Michelle Bachmann and the Minnesota press that helped her get elected, in comic book form. I don't care what side of the political spectrum you fall on, Michelle Bachman is crazy in a terrifying way. And she doesn't care what side of the political spectrum you fall on, either: Bachmann was accusing a Republican-controlled Congress AND President Bush of being "Anti-American Marxists" even before Obama and the Democrats took over.

Yay, Clover! I'm so glad I bought that omnibus. So gorgeous!

Ach. Bachmann is batshit. D:

MKR and CCS are probably my two favorite CLAMP works. I might give Clover a shot, though (and that omnibus is tempting).

I don't think I was enjoying those comics for the right reason(s)...

I wouldn't hesitate to point to Cardcaptor Sakura as one of the best shoujo manga ever written, period But it's a lot more down-to-earth and grounded than CLAMP's more ambitious series, despite the fantasy elements.

I think that Clover is the best of what I like to call CLAMP's Apocalyptic Manga - series that are extremely ambitious, epic in scope, and dealing with a literal apocalypse. So like, X and Tsubasa and Clover. Of those, Clover is the only one that... well, that didn't collapse under the weight of its own scale and scope.

...I admit to only have read CCS out of CLAMP's more "well known" work. I also enjoyed Man of Many Faces and the Clamp School series. My, I don't read much serious stuff, do I? :)

But, given what you said, maybe that's a good thing in CLAMP's case.

Funnily enough, I am currently selling my ol' Tokyopop edition of Clover. I'm not sure if the new omnibus editions come with the gorgeous transparent jacket, but man I love how those Tokyopop volumes look - even though the art is reversed 'cause they're old school.

(Sorry, I'm sort of lurking at the moment. *waves*)

I once wrote Michelle Bachman and asked her to please shut up. In those exact words. I told her that if she didn't have the grace or sense to realize she was embarrassing herself in public with her monumental idiocy, then could she please take into consideration the dignity of the rest of Minnesota please and for the love of God shut up?

I didn't hear her name in the news for two weeks after that and I allowed myself the egomaniacal illusion of believing that maybe I just told her. Yeah.

...and then she started up again. "Carbon dioxide is not harmful"-- oh my god.
