Here's a fun game.

Count how many of these "twists" Tsubasa has used since the Infinity arc.

Here's my tally:

* Double-cross
* Unintentional Incest (caveat: 1/2 of the couple KNEW goddammit)
* Devil Deal Backfires
* Devil Actually Autistic Boy Yuuko
* Autistic Boy Yuuko Grants Wishes
* Amnesiac Villain Kidnaps Self (kinda-sorta what happened to Fay)
* Stolen Identity Not Worth It (how's that working out for you, Watanuki?)
* Death by Petard (Kyle)
* Conspiracy Kind of Boring (FWR)
* Government is In On It (Ashura-Ou)
* Government is Autistic Boy Werewolf
* The Robot Clone Reveal
* God From Machine (Chii)
* Vampires Repel Daylight (c'mon, guys, Fay was a light-swallowing black hole of angst for thirty chapters)
* It Wasn't a Dream (doomtube)
* Christ Analog Backfires (Sakura - and how!)
* Swords Replace Feelings (pretty much)
* Eagles
* Necromancer Solves Case (Yuuko)
* God Did It (this, just this)

That's twenty out of forty-two. Wow.

And remember, kids: The Dresden Codak list? Is supposed to be a joke. But that's pretty much what Tsubasa has been reduced to by this point, anyway. It's a joke.

I mean, this is such a beautiful illustration of how big a clusterfuck the ending of Tsubasa has turned into. From now on I can just say, "SEE THIS?! Yeah, that? Tsubasa has actually done half of those things in its final quarter. It has actually. done. twenty. of. those. things. No joke. I can't even make this shit up."

So putting this in memories.

Ahaha, due to the font used, when I was reading page 10 of the scanlation, I misread "That was the beginning of it all" as "That was the beginning of the fail."

Quite seriously. I actually choked.

EDIT: Also! Brief shadow cameo of Yue and Cerberus... the text of which completely questions one of the key events of CCS. (Namely, that Clow died.) SO WHEN DID HE DIE?!

CLAMP! Stop retroactively fucking up the awesome that is CCS! Necrophilia is uncouth!

I have not been converted to Tsubasa fandom by your posts (& this one isn't really helping) but I lurve Dresden Codak. I'm mildly impressed that some strip has that high a score.

But it's not that surprising, is it?

I dunno if surprising is the right word. But it's certainly bad.

Twists are meant to be used sparingly, or else they lose their impact. A discrete work, like a book or movie, shouldn't have more than one or two twists at all. Serial works can include more twists if they're spaced out over time. But having something like twenty twists all thrown together at once at the end of a long-running series is just... well, it's crap writing, that's what it is. And I think what makes it worse is that many (admittedly not all) of the twists on the Dresden Codak list are meant to be lulzy jokes. But Tsubasa is playing them for straight drama.

Also, I wouldn't say that I'm in the Tsubasa fandom, per se. I don't really participate in the fandom side of things. I'm just a person who's reading the series solely for the trainwreck value, and occasionally snarking at it in my personal journal (as opposed to snarking at it in broader fandom spaces, which wouldn't be as welcome).

Wait, all at once?

I kind of want to see this series now...
