In case a shounen anime explanation would help things...
torches uses Shakugan no Shana to explain just how damn problematic Thirteenth Child and the current iteration of RaceFail is.

Yeah, pretty much.
Edited to add: Shounen anime will help you understand, but basic algebra probably won't. A =/= B in RaceFail (or in any sort of Fail) discussions. I'm looking at you, Soul Eater fandom. Just a little bit. Out of the corner of my eye.
Edited again: I am linking to this because I am half White Argentinian. A Half White Argentinian who knows quite a bit about the history of Jewish persecution in Argentina (having family who experienced that) but who knows jack shit about the history of indigenous people in Argentina. Because, you know, being white, one of my privileges is that I don't have to arse myself to learn about the history of people who Don't Look Like Me, because clearly the history of people Who Look Just Like Me is faaaaar more important in the grand scheme of things. And just reading the vague references in that post was enough to make me go "awwww goddammit I didn't know any of that!" And that, my friends, is what it feels like to be slapped in the face by your own privilege.
Edit the Fourth: Also this.
Edit the Fifth: If you need to wash the bad taste of RaceFail out of your mouth, here, read this book. It's by an author that I discovered during the Old School RaceFail, it's awesome, and it's set in a magical version of America that DOESN'T erase First Nations people. Natch.
