It wasn't so much "out of nowhere" as it was an epic subversion of a stupid shounen action trope.
Kid is just standing there in front of Asura, powering up and powering up and powering up, while at the same time
discussingarguing about battle strategy with Black Star. And Asura's sitting there, kinda watching Kid take a motherlong time to power up his cannons, and finally Asura's like, "Screw this," and just up and shishkabobs Kid.Asura is deliciously contemptuous of the Stupid Action Rules which state that you're not supposed to hit your opponent in the midst of their sparkly power-up sequence.

Oops, didn't realize that that's probably an Americanism. "First responder" = anybody (usually a paramedic, nurse, or firefighter) who administers medical attention to an injured person while still at the scene of an accident, before said person can be moved to a hospital proper. Generally first responders have to be highly trained individuals, which was why I LOL's when I saw Blair down among the medical staff attending to Spirit and Shinigami.

Ha, Blair the paramedic. Guess she's trying to do her bit like she was for Joe. *g*
I've been going between just seeing how things go and, typically for me, wanting an explanation (hence my Sanzu Lines comment elsewhere), and looking at bits from the episode again, sounds like it'll be just fun. Like previous weeks have turned out to be despite my futile pickiness. ;)

I also LOLed SO HARD when that happened to Kid. Also, he was completely symmetrical for about a minute, won't he be pissed he was too zoned out and missed it.
Also, the Black Star/Kid pissing contest was so fantastic throughout this episode. And also anti-climatic end to the epic Justin/Giriko battle that everybody forgot was happening. Or maybe that was the episode before; I just watched two in a row.

Definitely.
I think, however, that Kid came out of that as the clear winner (despite being unconscious half the episode). Because let's face it:

are better than one.
