As for chapter 53 of the manga... It was awesome. Ridiculously awesome. Killik kicked ass for like a dozen pages, Mizune returned, the group of Kim/Jackie/Ox/Harvar/Killik/crazypots was re-united, and... Well, the final two pages slap the reader in the face with a fantastically creepy and just plain gut-wrenchingly awful cliffhanger. Hint: Does anybody remember Unico in the Isle of Magic? How creepy and unspeakably horrible Kuruku's power was? Yeah. That.

(Mmm, is it a bad or a good thing that Soul Eater is giving me flashbacks to Unico, of all things?!)

Oh man this completely distracted me from my work but atm I DON'T CARE. XDD I think I will proceed to rant about each and every page you got here.

First pic fried my brain. Liek burnt toast black (if that made any sense). I didn't notice that Maka was the only girl until you pointed it out - but in my defense I was distracted by the fact that Maka's got her arm propped up behind Black*Star. I find that funny for some strange reason. XDD

Second is made of awesome and BLACK*STAR. Demon blade second level blew me away the first time I saw it - and it's ten times as awesome in COLOR.

Third makes me wish I could read japanese. But zomg ANIME SPOILERS. IS THAT CHRONA I SEE OVER THAR?

Fourth... I agree with you one the cover. *wants* *O*
Maka, you make white gowns look so badass it's ridiculous.

Fifth. Calendar. Caaaaleeendaaar. *still wants* Oh gawsh, it's times like these that my ever-empty wallet hits me hardest in the gut. ;__;

And: random thought is random, but is anyone else just shocked in a good way at the speed the mangaka improved with, from the first chapter to the current ones? Da-yuuum.

harvar did a complete 180 in my book. I SWEAR that boy had a bowl hair cut at one point. When did he become so badass!

The art has improved leaps and bounds. That usually happens in long running manga's though. An artist's style changes and improves. Look and Bleach and Naruto.

Yeah, though I suppose the difference is more obvious in Soul Eater, since Bleach and Naruto already had pretty good art when they started. On the flip side, the art also tends to decline in really long-running mangas--Bleach, for example. Tite tends to draw everyone with really long faces, with less emphasis on expression and detail as he used to. I hope that sort of thing doesn't happen for Soul Eater--or if it does, that it's a looooong way off.

Mm, the story-telling has always been good to me. I like how there's been the basic premise, but there's always been a strong plot too, rather than a more episodic set up that this type of story could have so easily fallen into. (Picturing, like, pokémon-style Soul Eater. OH GOD. GOTTA EAT THEM ALL.)
