Soul Eater episode 37
Eeeeeeeh, no Tsubasa this week, so have some Soul Eater instead.
Episode 37: The first major deviation from the manga! From the episodes previews I was kind of expecting a) teh funny and b) significant plot advancement, neither of which... happened in this episode. But, that's okay. It was still good.
Briefly...
Stein has gone completely mumblynuts bonkers, and Sid is off drinking tea with Shinigami-sama, but for some reason the episode opens with all of the students in their classroom, although we're never actually shown who's supposed to be teaching them.
Clearly, every single teacher at Shibusen who is not Stein, Sid, Marie or Nygus is invisible.
Anyway, Kid asks permission to use the restroom, leaves, and then... doesn't come back. He just walks right out the classroom, out the school, off the campus, and down the street.
CLASSIC.
Okay, raise your hands - who else played hooky using that method when you were in school?
(*raises hand*)
Bathroom feint. Oh, Kid. Doing things completely by the book.
After that, however, we get a good five or ten minutes of complete and total Kiddickery. He goes to Stein's house, and finds that Stein is cowering in the corner of a room, mumbling to himself and talking to little kishin-creatures that only he can see. Showing a complete lack of concern or sympathy for Stein's condition, Kid just starts firing questions at him. What is the Brew, blah blah blah blah blah. Of course he doesn't get any decent answers, because Stein has gone completely mumblynuts bonkers, and again, Kid doesn't seem at all concerned about this. He's all ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME blah blah blah blah blah ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME. Wow.
For the record, earlier in this episode Maka was acting all sad because of what happened to Stein, and throughout the episode, a recurring subplot is that Crona feels deeply, massively guilty about the direct part that ze's played in Stein's downfall.
But Kid doesn't give two shits about Stein, apparently.
Other things of note in this episode:
1. The scene of Shinigami-sama fanboying all over Maka. It starts when Sid (Sid!) is getting frustrated with being kept partially in the dark by Shinigami-sama, too. So he asks Shinigami-sama point-blank why they're collecting demon tools. Shinigami-sama is all like, "LOL I can't tell you! Peace! ^_____________^" Then Maka calls Shinigami-sama on the mirror and asks about her anti-demon DH totally awesome power-up of total awesome. And Shinigami-sama is all like, "Of course, Maka-chan, you can ask my anything, anytime! I'll answer all of your questions! ^_________________^" Sid is still with him when he says this. And then Sid is OTL.
Oh, Sid. Maybe if you were a cute little girl in pigtails, you'd be better able to pump Shinigami-sama for information. Maybe the same could be said for Kid as well.
2. Soul complains about having to do extra training with Maka, because that's "totally lame, like something from a stupid shounen fighting manga." Yes, he actually says that.
Oh, Soul. Now you're just going meta on us, aren't you?
Noteworthy tidbit:Wait, Kid tried counseling? (Did I hear that right?) I might have misheard that. I should download a raw and double-check. But hey, if I did hear that snatch of Kid's babbling correctly, then that's a reeaaaaaaallllly interesting tidbit for the anime director to have thrown in there. "I tried counseling once" is perhaps the most direct acknowledgement of the elephant in Kid's brain that we've gotten yet.
Edit: Okay, downloaded and double-checked, and yup, I misheard the line. Stein is criticizing Kid, and Kid's response is "Stop trying to point out my faults!" Then he goes all emo, nervously looks away from Stein, and says, "You're worse than a third-rate therapist." So. As to what Kid would know of third-rate therapists, that's left open to interpretation.

I wouldn't have picked this up if it weren't for your discussions on Kid. Good job for spreading the fun!

and sorry if I'm mistaken lolUAbout the episode, I thought that we would gain some valuable information, but there wasn't anything that interesting, except that:
Kid seems quite desperated to gain information about the BREW and his father, that he doesn't really care how to obtain it and he has no future as a detective
but the therapist thing was interesting...Shinigami-sama is willing to answer to Maka's questions, but no Kid's
you would look good with pigtails Kid xDUand that the poor Crona is having a really bad time with her situation.
and most important, BS VS Kid in the next episode!!!!! <33Thank you! your entries are always so funny x3

As annoying as he is, I can see Kid being entirely single-minded. He's quite obsessive enough not to notice or care that Stein's in difficulties. It's another case of what he thinks is important taking precedence over what is right in front of him, and actually matters.
Though Kid finding more out about Brew and the like is probably important in the long run, someone needs to notice Stein's state. Kid missing it when it's under his nose is, sadly, rather typical of the obsessive little god.
