This week's Tsubasa: Chapter 207
This is going to be short, again. Because Cloney? Not so much with the witty banter.
Syaoran and Cloney are about to face off. "Yes," Cloney says, in response to the line that Syaoran gave him last time, "this ends here."
They fight.
For like, twenty pages.
And let me tell you something about this fight: It is frackin' amazing. CLAMP really pulled out all the stops on these pages. It's just incredible. Jaw-dropping. GORGEOUS. Literally one of the best fight scenes that I've ever seen rendered in a comic book. But, of course, there's little to no dialogue at all, in any of these pages.
What little dialogue there is, however, goes something like this:
Syaoran tells Cloney, "You weren't able to fulfill your Sakura's wish." Flashback to clone!Sakura dying in Cloney's arms.
Cloney doesn't bother to actually respond to that, he just kicks Syaoran's ass.
Observing the fight, Kurogane points out. "Compare to when we saw him in Nihon Country, that clone has..."
"...Gotten way stronger," Fay finishes.
FWR explains, "Well, of course. The magic power in his right eye grows stronger the more that he uses it. He's been traveling through many dimensions, using his magic and gathering more feathers. In other words, he's far surpassed the magical abilities of his original."
And then the chapter ends.
Wait, so Cloney has gotten more powerful, not just by using Fay's magic, but also bysnorting smoking hookah-ing absorbing Sakura's feathers?! AWESOME. So basically, there's no way that anybody can beat Cloney. But hey, Syaoran is a complete moron, so of course he's going to keep trying.
Now, for some other stuff... xxxHolic recently dropped a huge retcon-bomb that directly impacts the Tsubasa storyline. Remember when it was revealed that 616!Sakura and 616!Syaoran were Watanuki's parents, and fans were really upset about this because Watanuki's parents were dead?! Well, that's been totally retconned as of chapter 170 of xxxHolic.
The fortune-teller who originally told Watanuki that his parents "had passed peacefully" calls Yuuko to tell her that she made a mistake. "I originally saw that Kimihiro's parents were not in this world, so I assumed that meant that they had passed on," she tells Yuuko. "But I was mistaken. Kimihiro's parents are no longer in this world, true. But they live on in another place."
Yuuko confirms that The Parents are still "waiting for their children" and "believing in both of them." I assume that "both of them" refers to Syaoran and Watanuki. (But not Cloney, because he sucks. I guess.) But both Yuuko and the fortune-teller decide not to inform Watanuki of this new twist, at least not yet.
So! There you have it. Sakura and Syaoran aren't dead, they're just waiting around in some other universe for Syaoran Jr. and Watanuki to... I dunno, accomplish something? Defeat FWR? Fulfill their Oedipal destinies and hook up with Clow!Sakura? Save the cheerleader, save the world?
Or something.
No chapter next week. Tsubasa will return with more clone-kicking action on December 24th!
