(*sigh*) Holic

I've been marathon-reading xxxHolic over the past couple days in order to catch up to the current chapters. I complained that I didn't like xxxHolic in my previous post, and after having read nine volumes, I still don't like it. It's a damnable combination of boringness, meh artwork, and difficult-to-read Japanese. (Yes, I'm lazy and yes, I still hate reading manga without furigana, especially manga that I don't particularly want to be reading in the first place.) I glanced ahead at the most recent chapters, and after a *certain* Tsubasa character crosses over to become a regular xxxHolic cast member, her very presences only serves to highlight how inferior flat depthless "different" the artwork in xxxHolic is, compared to Tsubasa.

On top of that, xxxHolic is going to be difficult for me to keep up with from this point on, because Young Magazine is rarely if ever stocked in the ONLY bookstore in the Iida area.

Well, there's always downloads.

(*grumbles again*) I know that Tsubasa is bad in many ways too, and I've ranted about it on this journal before, but... At least Tsubasa is wildly entertaining and addictive, despite its many, glaring, numerous flaws. So far, in my personal opinion, I can't say the same for xxxHolic. I do not like this manga. That wouldn't be a problem, however, if CLAMP weren't forcing me to READ it in order to understand the manga that I *do* like.

I normally don't make it a point to kvetch about series that I really don't like in my journal, because it's no fun for me, and it's certainly no fun for the people reading this who *do* like xxxHolic. But as long as I'm being *forced* to read a manga that I don't like, then I feel entirely justified in continuing to kvetch about it.
