Well, hopefully the clowns will be taken care of more quickly now that witches are here. I usually try to be as tolerant and understanding as possible about how authors write out their stories(when I like the story), so I'm going to think that the clown battle was drawn out because it was supposed to annoy us all. It should have felt like eternity for the characters, it felt like eternity for me the reader, and I totally want to cheer for the witches who came with a magic to make them go away.
And while the clowns feel like they've been around for too long, I don't think bring-the-witches'-help plot was dragging unnecessarily. It was first mentioned in 97 and set in motion in 98, and if witches came a chapter or two earlier, it would have still made sense plotwise but I would have felt the whole thing was rushed. Shibusen and witches did have long history so the talk between Azusa and Kid last month seemed pretty legit, too. Just my opinion.

The part where Kid basically drove the ship right into the beam was... I'm not sure how to describe what I felt. It was like taking a "seems stupid but shows character" shonen moment and declaring "Yes it is indeed stupid! even if it shows character!" Aand Mabaa appears right after. Is Ohkubo self-trolling Kid or what? lol

By the way I read the raw chapter myself and was wondering about some minor stuff that was different from what I thought I read, but the end of the post clarified it. Good luck with your soshul experiments!
