Ladies devouring media intended for boys/men has been a truism for as long as fandom has existed. I mean, Back In The Day what we think of as "fandom" now was mostly Star Trek, Tolkein, and Dr. Who. What's doubly unsurprising is that it's universal across cultures, too. (Just look at Japan.)
