I think I understand the first season feeling more exciting. Last year MLP was this new and exciting thing and the fandom was awesome and the Bronies were awesome and colorful cartoon ponies were everywhere on the internet and it was such a cool thing. This year it's... well, it's not a new thing anymore, and the Brony fandom has been getting progressively more obnoxious, entitled, and sexist, and there's only so many umpteen thousand pieces of Pony fanart or Youtube music remixes that you can digest before you start to get sick of it, you know?

(I will say that the music this season has not been nearly as good as the music in Season 1, though. "Becoming Popular" being a notable exception.)
