Fun with Palm Fate/Stay Night figures

Went bazarre-hopping and found these. After having about a jillion Fate figures on my wishlist for months, I am now the proud owner of my very first set of Fate figures!

Witness, if you will, two Palm Scenery sets: Saber/Shirou, and Archer/Rin.

Packaging:

Pretty meh. Sorry about these bad photographs.

In fact, pretty much all of the following photographs are going to blurry or just plain bad. Because I suck with my camera, I do. However, considering that these figures did not fare very well on their first (and only) foray out of their packaging, I haven't the heart to take them out again solely for the purpose of re-shooting these photos. So you'll have to make do, sorry.

First up, Archer:

Aaaah, he has extra arms! Well, those extra arms are for his bow and arrow, which he can't aim or shoot with his regular two arms.

Next up, a group mug shot:

The characters with their weapons of choice, which from left to right would be: a soup ladle, Excalibur, magical speshul knife of Kotomine-doom, and whatever the heck Archer named those blades (they had names, didn't they?).

Now, here's the thing about these figures: Getting those weapons to fit in those tiny little hand slots was HARD. And, unfortunately, getting them out again was even harder. So hard, in fact, that... Well, let's just say that Saber was a bit loathe to let go of Excalibur, once she got it in her hands. Long story short, when I attempted to remove Excalibur from Saber's grip, the handle broke off. Now the handle is permanently stuck in Saber's hands, and I was unable to pose her with her practice kendo sword, as I had planned to do for this next photograph:

At least Archer got his bow, though. Here's what they look like from the back:

And from the side, which I did to show what Archer looks like while aiming his bow, only poor Archer turned out blurry and out of focus:

And finally...

OMGWTFBBQ. Yes, these figures do have a few detachable parts... And "detachable" is just another word for "interchangeable," right? Now, Saber and Archer both have detachable arms, and I did try to switch their arms around... Unfortunately, Archer's arm pegs are much larger than Saber's arm holes, so the switch didn't work. Shirou has one detachable arm, and Rin has none, which is pretty much it for detachable body parts.

While I was attempting to put these figures back in their packaging, tragedy struck again. Archer just didn't want to let go of his bow. So now the handle of Archer's bow is permantly stuck in his hand, whereas the rest of the bow has snapped off. Now, this does happen to be the detachable arm that Archer only uses for holding his bow, so it's not that big a tragedy. With some superglue I could reattach the bow to its handle. Then the bow and the bow-arm would be permanently attached. Again, not really a problem - both pieces could still fit back in the original packaging while attached together, too.

Hmmm. Must buy glue.

So, speaking of Fate figures... The Fate Collection series, which has been building up hype for months, is finally going to release the first bust (Saber) attached to the limited edition Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua, which FINALLY ships this month OMG SQUEE. And to recap the other three figures quickly: Rider comes with the limited edition of volume 3 of the manga, due out in March. Ilya/Heracles is a furoku, attached to the March issue of Comptiq (on sale February 10th). Archer/Rin is also a furoku, with the February issue of Shounen Ace, on sale January 26th.

But wait, there's more. Type Moon revealed this month that they're adding two new busts to the line: a Dark Saber, and a Dark Ilya/Heracles. These will packaged as part of the two upcoming Fate Fantasm box sets. For less than $22, the first Fantasm Box comes with Fate Fanbook Volume 1, the Ilya figure, the BeserKAR (albeit this version has real wheels), and some character playing cards. Then, for less than $22, the second Fantasm Box gets you the second half of the fanbook, the Dark Saber figure, a Dark Saber phone strap, and a B2-sized tapestry.

I'm still looking at the price and boggling. Is that the real price, or a typo? Oh Type Moon, please never stop making collectors like me happy.
