Lightning-round Soul Eater mini-recap before bed.
Dunno if I'm going to be able to recap fully this weekend, so here are some spoilers anyway.
SE 85: Very short chapter this month, only nineteen pages, and it's literally nothing but Justin vs. Tezca. if you've seen the spoilers then you've pretty much seen the whole chapter already.
Not! 4: A student reports to Sid that a "Traitor" was spotted wandering around Death City. The kanji for "Traitor" literally reads "challenger for a practice match" so I'm guessing based on the following few pages of dialogue that this is something/somebody that occassionally shows up in Death City solely for the purpose of testing their might against Shibusen students? But anyway, there have been far too many of them appearing in Death City recently, as Sid comments that this is the sixteenth incident of a Traitor appearing this month alone, and this is an unusually high number. Um, maybe it's something in the water? Clay and Akane overhear and ask if they can go defeat the Traitor as a training exercise.
So Clay and Akane go and find the Traitor, who asks them rather creepily, "Did you sleep well last night?" Clay expositions that Akane doesn't have to kill the Traitor, he just has to get the Traitor into a checkmate position and then the Traitor is supposed to give up and go away. Then we finally get to see Akane wielding Clay in combat. (To absolutely nobody's surprise, Clay is a claymore.) Akane defeats the Traitor by pinning it with the point of his sword, and tells the Traitor to give up and retreat. Instead, the Traitor tries to kill himself by leaning forward and forcing the tip of Clay's blade into his skull. Akane is understandably freaked out about this and punches out the Traitor before anything Really Bad can happen.
Meanwhile, back at Shibusen, Tsugumi is retconning her own origin story through a bunch of think-bubbles. And suddenly, Maka! Maka explains to Tsugumi and Company that Shibusen students get to choose their own school uniforms. Maka tells Tsugumi that she's cute and Tsugumi explodes from gay. Yes, Soul is there with Maka, but he has no lines. Clay and Akane show up and Akane tells Sid that there was Something Wrong with the Traitor that they were sent to fight.
Sid forces the students to finally decide upon their partners, so Tsugumi ends up with Me-Me while Sid pairs off Anya with another boy (another new character?) who refuses to speak to her. Anya is super-pissed about this, and is in the middle of pouting around the city when she is approached by a creepy guy with a long fingernail who asks her, "Did you sleep well last night?" Chapter ends.
ETA: Added a lot more detail to the Not! spoilers, having now read the chapter more carefully than I did at midnight last night. ;)

Had a feeling. I hope we eventually get into why Justin went apeshit in the first place sometime soon. Backstory would be, like, amazing, but we know how much Ohkubo looooves backstory. When you get any in Soul Eater its like, fucking godsend.
Even though im sure the chapter wont be anything god tier, im sure your recap will be more so d('-'d)

Either way you make every recap entertaining as can be no matter how disappointing the chapter is. Your snarkery always brings a smile to my face C:
So Uncool

(Anonymous) 2011-04-22 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)I am really looking forward to your recap even if I sometimes feel like I'm going to drown in all the snark :)

I mean, it fits with the general theme that Ohkubo keeps bludgeoning us with in everybody else's little character arcs. Thinking that you don't need others or wanting to be strong alone = weakness, whereas accepting that other people can help you become stronger together than you would be alone = true strength.

Why thank you! ^_^

Re: Why the shortness?
This month we're not entirely moving away from the Crona storyline, since the Justin vs. Tezca confrontation takes place near Crona's big blood-bubble. Justin sought out the black blood bubble because he wants to know more about the black blood's abilities. (Remember, Justin is one of the few cast members who has never met Crona before.)
I am really looking forward to your recap even if I sometimes feel like I'm going to drown in all the snark :)
LOL thank you! :)
Re: Why the shortness?
I vote velociraptors.
In all honesty though I just assumed it had to do with the big ass earthquake. I also read somewhere that because of the disaster it caused damage to the paper mills, and now ink and paper are in low supply.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-23 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)And in the case of the regular soul eater, well... maybe we'll get an explanation to why enrique wasn't at the noah battle.
I'm thinking tezca just threw a banana into a bush and ran away while he was eating it.

And yay! Maka and Soul appear~ XD Waiting for the day Tsugumi works up the courage to ask Maka out.
I hope Japan's able to get their economy up and running again.
Thanks for the Not! recap!

I've been waiting for it for days~

I'm a bit sad that Tsugumi wasn't paired with Anya, but I was expecting it. Poor Anya.
Re: Why the shortness?
Oh no wait fuck I'm a dumbass. Justin met Crona the first time that both of them fought Giricco.
(Yes, replying to myself!)

I'm really getting excited for Not! now. Was that a final decision? Anya is permanently this new characters meister? T_T I was more Tsugumi and Anya, and I was kind of hoping for Okubo to stretch out this whole two meisters, one weapon thing, but hey, i guess you can only keep that going for so long…….
As for Soul Eater, I was kind of looking forward to this Crona battle, but I'm also curious about the whole Justin thing. A part of me really wants him back on the good side, because I really just love him as a character, but he seems like a pretty good villain too? i guess?
Anyway, thanks again!
