Sakura Taisen Appreciation Half-Week: "Run, Imperial Floral Assault Group, at the speed of light! "

Sadly, it is the final day of Sakura Taisen Appreciation Half-Week, which has now become more like three quarters of a week than a half-week, but whatever. So this will be the obligatory music post. Here we go.

Sakura Taisen, as a franchise, has produced a lot of music. A LOT. Each of the video games has an original opening and ending theme, each of the anime adaptations have their own theme songs, and add on top of that about a gazillion live musical stage shows, not to mention the uniquely Japanese custom of releasing "character image songs" for each character direct to CD... And the remixes. Oh god, the remixes. I have over twenty-five different versions of the original game theme song alone on my iRiver. Put that all together, and you've got a huge body of music.

Here's some of the best of it.

Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan Original Version
The original theme song, used in the first game and first OAV series.

Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan Revised
Opening to the second game and OAV.

Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan Teito Version
This is seriously my favorite remix of the theme song.

Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan Orchestral Version
Orchestral score from the animated movie. Because every song is awesome when performed by a full symphony orchestra.

EURO GEKITEI
And you thought the original version was ear-wormy. You poor fools. I shall inflict this upon you BECAUSE I CAN.

Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan Maria Vocals (Russian)
I'm uploading this solely for the Maria/Takano Urara fans reading this. ;) Takano Urara sings the theme song in Russian.

Okay, that's it for the original theme song, I swear. But, like I said, I literally have twenty-five different versions of the "Geki! Teikoku Hanagekidan" song scattered over several CDs, including versions in seven different languages, performed to varying degress of success by the Japanese voice actresses.

But here are some theme songs that have never been remixed:

Mihata no Moto ni
Theme song for the Paris cast. Amazing that it's been used in two games and two OAV series, and yet has never been remixed.

Chijou no Senshi
Theme song for the New York cast. My least favorite of the three theme songs, but still ear-wormy enough.

Bonus tracks:

Sagitta's character song: "Downtown Heart."
Uploaded because of the discussion in the comments here. Totally bizarro Japanese cultural appropriation of African American gospel music that must be heard to be believed.

Miracle Bell
I've been promising you the Greatest Christmas Song Ever Written for the past several posts now, right? Well, this is it. And yes, it would be this franchise - steam-powered giant robots, swashbuckling roosters, cross-dressing samurai who make out with time-displaced Egyptian mummies, and all - that ultimately produces the Greatest Christmas Song Ever Written. Because that's just the way that the world works.

Thanks! :) Where did you find it? I've got the Complete Song Box, but couldn't find it there. I've seen video on Youtube though. The funny thing is that her Russian is... ummm... pretty difficult to understand. Only "Run at the speed of light" and "We will never give up because we are Teikoku Hanagekidan" are recognisable. But it's cute anyway.

My favourite songs are Ai Yueni, Cinema Koushin Kyoku, 192455631, Hana no Paris and Subete ha Umi he. Actually, this list should be longer, but I don't want to bore you with the titles. I just love ST music.

Oh, and you own iRiver too? I thought I'd never see another iRiver user while it seems everyone now dream about iPod. :)

Yay iRiver represent! I need to replace the battery in mine, though. It's starting to crap out. But my iRiver is four years old already, so I don't mind. (And I'd like to see an iPod battery last that long!)

I got the Russian version from this CD:

Yes, that's literally eighteen tracks of nothing but "Geki!" remixes.

Mine is new, got it as a New Year present this year. Hope it will work at least as long as yours.

And that disc is... um... impressing.

By the way, did you get my PM?

Darn you, Nena, now it's stuck in my head again...:D
No, seriously, thank you so much! I'm downloading like crazy here. Everytime I hear that first song, I want to get up and jump all over the place. Which makes the people at work think I'm nuts. :D Okay, I lied, but I'm not lying about the feelings.

Do you know something interesting? I just thought of it...but both the Starlights and the Imperial Flower Assault Troupe are totally butt-kicking superheroines who masquerade as musical performers during the day. Maybe that explains why that fan I mentioned earlier is such a huge fan of both...:D
